It's not so bad as long as there are some good games on TV and you can drink on the company dime

You will soon have a whole new car. Great conservation method.

It's tougher to manage in the military than as a civilian because it takes a LOT more to get fired. The minimum requirement is to show up.

Ugh, feeling like an idiot today. I could've sworn the director I report to at work was French but it turns out he's Italian. I don't know what possessed me to think his accent was French. The espresso machine on his desk also lead to the assumption, but that's also Italian so what the hell, brain?

Finally found out when I mentioned it to four colleagues who all looked at me extremely confused. One guy even said, "don't call him French, you will probably get fired."

And ever level thinks the other consists of nothing but morons. Even though some came from or aspire to each.

I just thought this was interesting. Honda will announce a new motorcycle this year (CT 125). It's price will be about $3,500. Maybe it's time to drag my 1970 Honda CT 90 out of the basement and dust it off? I paid $350 for it (new) in 1970.

Just one question comes to mind.. Did you back it into your basement? Depending upon the response, "dusting it off" takes on a whole new meaning....

hmmm......it's been over 25 years since I parked it down there, but it's facing towards the door, so, I figure I backed it in. Actually, I pushed it in backwards, so there is no damage to the rear of the bike.

Trail 70's and 90's have been worth money for quite a while. They are collector items anymore. I know a guy who has 3 or 4. He's over 6ft, it's funny to watch him ride them.

I most of our field leadership shows up to work drunk, high or both everyday. One guy in particular got caught shitting outside in the gravel at the power station next to a job. he would go there at 3-4am so he could drink his 6-pack before work. the people working on that station got suspicious of the poop and put up deer cams to catch the perp.

long story short he was caught, banned from the job(our largest in the history of the branch here in GA) and we were damn near removed from the job as a whole but no one else could handle something that size so we got to stay.

I could go on about all the things he does and doesn't do because he's sitting in his truck drinking instead of working but I'll spare you.

Did he get fired? did he get reprimanded or punished in any other way? No to both. he was however put on the next largest job we have which is even closer to his home. and he hardly even shows up because he never leaves his truck or goes on the job that he's supposed to be supervising.

best part. EVERYONE knows about this and NO ONE does anything about it.

so I don't know about it taking more to get fired. my brother is a Marine and he was worried about being able to pass some test or something for a promotion because if he didn't they would just cut him loose. nothing like that happening here.

I know that for commissioned officers, being passed over becomes a career killer. Not sure exactly how that works. You raise a good point. All of us had to meet minimum physical performance requirements. There were no waivers. One of my shipmates who was making a career of it went through hell every six months because he was hiding a bum knee. I knew a few people who were medically discharged but I never knew of anyone getting kicked for not being promoted. Maybe it was a different time.

I cannot imagine working in the situation that you describe. Why is it allowed to continue? Serious question.
