I'm a pretty firm believer humanity has killed evolution. A benevolent society has eliminated the condition where only the strongest procreate. Being strongest or smartest is no longer a requirement to reproduce and weak dumb organisms can flood the gene pool with sub par dna. The human race has come to an evolutionary stand still. Maybe I'm wrong and the strong smart people will only reproduce with each other and the dumb weak ones will take what's left creating 2 forms of human. One amazing. One disgusting. The future is bleak folks

If you couldn't tell by now, I'm a biologist.

There is a common misunderstanding that "survival of the fittest" is the same as "survival of the strongest". Let's say you are a bacteria. If your environment changes (i.e., some asshole biologist or doctor dumps a shitload of antibiotics into your nice petri dish full of beef broth that you've been reproducing in) most of your companion bacteria will die. However, let's say that you are the lucky one who has had a mutation occur in your genome, purely by chance, that makes you resistant to this antibiotic. You survive while nearly everyone else dies. Now that you have no competition for the beef broth, you slurp it up and make billions of copies of yourself. Ta-da! You win the evolutionary lottery. You were not stronger or better than your fellow bacteria. You were "fitter" however, because you had the good luck to be resistant to whatever the hell it was that the asshole biologist dumped into your petri dish. You then take over the world of the petri dish.

Now, think of humanity and how that process might apply to humans through something like global warming or some killer virus. We are by no means resistant to the forces of evolution.

I'll stop now but this is one of my favorite topics. It's probably best to try to avoid it in the future...
