It's about 30 miles NE of Barstow, CA.

It's called Fort Irwin.

Just tell the gate guard that Captain humfrz sent you -

Do not go to Fort Irwin. NEVER go to Fort Irwin.

You could check out El Mirage if you want the desert/lake bed/off road vehicle experience. Plus you sometimes get to see cool stuff. Though I'm sure there are better places for that north of Barstow

yeah. we're ok having time apart. kinda necessary imo. we're not the type to be around each other 24/7.

thx. pure luck really.

I need my alone time something fierce and even living together but not seeing much of each other during certain times isn't enough for me. I really gotta disconnect from humanity from time to time. just me and the dog is all I really need. hell I was single(aside from the occasional bar hookup) for a good 5 years and that was perfectly ok with me. I could go home and totally decompress every night. it was great.

this weekend she's going to a "Partner retreat" to a really nice spa/golf/etc place. spouses/GF/BF/whatever are invited but I'm not going. mostly because I don't want to deal with her work people but also because it'll just be me and the dog at the house for 3 days.

Sort of. I was in the lead vehicle, not as dusty up there; the 1st Sergeant brought up the rear of the column, dusty back there. He rides shotgun so his left side is to inside the vehicle (less dusty).

I get it. I go backpacking by myself sometimes to get away from everything. I find it freeing to have nothing to worry about except the path in front of me and the things on my back.

It's so nice to have a partner that's cool with me taking time for myself. I am sure you appreciate it too. Thanks for sharing.
