It survives for 850 years, through several medieval battles, a revolution and two world wars and then is destroyed by renovations. The irony is off the charts.

The shots of the spire on fire right before its collapse will bring tears to your eyes.

I saw them. I actually visited the place a few times back when I was stationed in Germany. It truly is an architectural marvel.

Same here. I have a picture of a pretty French girl, with the back of the Cathedral in the background. The first mrs humfrz just didn't understand WHY I had to have the pretty girl in the picture (she was never into photography - ).

After you retire, I'd suggest you start off with the trike. Why? Because, at that age, if you fall over on that 2 wheel road bike, you may have to call AAA to upright it for you -

I have enough toys, some say too many. I actually need a bike I might get some exercise with, but with the electric motor if I get too pooped. My new place is 1.1 miles from a park on Lake Lowell, so need the basket for picnic goods.

I bet they'll be able to get it all fixed up again. I'm sure y'all have heard the old saying "no matter how fucked up something gets, it can always be repaired."

I still think it's strange that Notre Dame could catch on fire. Isn't it made of stone?

100 year old wood frame? That is what I heard on the news at lunch. I don't know the history, but sounds like they built wood frame reinforce it or something? Anyone know the structural history? Sounds like it will smolder for days.

No one has come into my cubicle for weeks, but now that I announced my retirement Friday, I'm suddenly very popular.
