I have and electric backup warming up as we speak. I put a large kettle (that we use to cook sweet corn) of water on the electric stove and it is heating up. When mrs humfrz rolls out of her den, I will present her with the kettle of hot water and a sponge. I'll let you know (if I'm able) how that works out - ![]() humfrz |

On a trip to Italy, I visited the excavated part of the city of Pompeii. On the tour they took us to an old Roman bath house. The tour guide (a pretty girl) pointed out to notice the ceiling, especially the scalloped, curved architecture. It was built that way so that when the warm water (steam) rose and collected on the ceiling that the droplets would not drip down on the bathers. Get the picture? Yes, she was a pretty little thing - ![]() humfrz |

Back-on-the-farm, in the BIG house, hot water was heated by the coal fired furnace in the basement. Yep, a coil of water pipes circled over the grate of hot coals and through gravity and convection, water was heated and circulated up to the bathroom and kitchen. Now, pity the poor kid that used the last of the hot water before my mother had her bath. Therefore, us kids just didn't use the hot water - ![]() What about in the summertime when the furnace wasn't being used, you ask? Why would you need hot water in the summer - it's warm outside! If you wanted a warm bath, go out and jump into the horse trough - that water was warm. humfrz |

I have annoyed people by pointing that out every time somebody said "hot water heater" for decades now. It is not a "hot water heater" it is a cold water heater or simply water heater. A hot water heater is called a boiler and makes steam.
