It was early on one of those HHH (Hot-Humid-Hazy) summer mornings in St Peters, MO. The neighbor had a tool I wanted to borrow. Late that night before he gave me permission and the code to his garage door and said just go on in and get it the next morning. He said he would be leaving before I got there, but he would alert his wife that I would be entering the garage. So, I opened the garage door and was under his one of his workshop benches trying to find the tool, when I heard the click of a revolver cocking and there stood Carla (his wife) in a skimpy nightgown, holding a nickel plated, .357 magnum revolver ...... yep, and it was loaded. I reckon Frank forgot to tell her ..... ![]() I quickly made her aware of who I was and helped her lower and un-cock her weapon........... ![]() THE END humfrz |

![]() Question about mobility - does she still have a car and can/will she drive ..?? I can identify with what you're going through. My mother mentally checked out (Alzheimer's) a few years before she passed away. My dad cared for her at home to the end, however it took a toll on him. After she passed, dad went into a deep depression, recovered somewhat and passed away a few years later. What my siblings and I did for him: * antidepressants (Doctor prescribed) * encouraged him to join a "single seniors" group - which he did * allowed him to drive his car - during the day - just into town * got him a "life alert" thing - which he reluctantly wore * we got him a really big screen TV - because of his bad eyesight * stocked his pantry and refrigerator with easily prepared foods that he liked * got him a live-in caretaker - in his later years (with mixed results). Sometimes you just have to treat them like they did you when you were a child. Yep, mom, hop in the car, we are going to the doctors appointment. Why you asked ?....... because I said so. Yep, mom, here are your meds, chug em down ...... I know they don't taste good and they aren't doing you any good ...... but, you're gonna take them anyway. It's a tough love thing at times. Hang in there..... ![]() humfrz |

Thanks Humfrz.
Mom is actually in great shape for 80. Still drives fine, handwriting is as smooth as ever, and still sharp as a tack. She has always worried about Alzheimers because her mother and aunt got it bad, but I remind her they got it in their 60s and she shows no sign at 80, so probably not going to happen. I need to kick up my game, go over more, make lots of easy meal packets, and make her promise to stay out of the attic and stuff without help. |
