I actually enjoy doing renos. Helped my dad with the basement and kitchen at their house, as well as tearing apart most of the lake house to redo

I love Elton John, well until his more recent stuff. The last few albums left me cold.

Must be that time of year. Our kitchen reno starts on Wednesday.

Unfortunately in this case I'm not doing DIY but PSE (Pay Someone Else). I would love to do it myself but MomHawk says she can't do without the kitchen for the amount of time it would take me.

We just paid off the PSE for our 12 year old renovation just before Christmas. Would do the same again in a heartbeat.

Oh, I hear that. We did that about 8 years ago. Yep, except for the kitchen counter and carpeting, I did it all myself.

The spare bath was the worst. Water from the shower had gotten into the walls. So, I had to dig further than the shower wall lining ..... past the sheet rock, new wall studs, new subflooring, new floor beams ...... what a project!

Oh yes, I suggest you be sure to keep your receipts, because, in certain states, the expenses can be deducted when you sell ..... if you have a capital gains situation.

All I know is the next time mrs humfrz feels we need to update/remodel ..... we are just going to move ....... into a house that is up to date .......

One nice thing is my contractor and his partner are both very good life long friends, so I get the friends and family rates, and doesn't mark up for materials or subs. Also I can trust him with the keys to the house, that's a big deal to me that I dont have to be there, and they appreciate not having the homeowner in the way.

I wanted to do it myself but the wife is much wiser and figured that she would like the job completed before we both died of old age.

That's a plus for sure.

About 5 years ago, I had a roofing friend replace our roof (shake - complete tear off). I gave him the keys and we left on a 10 day driving vacation. When we returned, we had a new roof .....
