Honda CBR 125 R

My truck is in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

We've had around 7 inches of the snow in the past 48 hours.

My parents cottage. Just need to drive to their place in Guelph, swap vehicles with my dad, so that I can use his truck and drive the bike up north.

Not bad for $500 bucks, and it even included a set of brand new tires. Which is the only thing it needs to pass a safety inspection!

Nice man! That'll be fun once the snow melts. Looking forward to hearing some riding impressions or seeing some GoPro vids.

It's actually my second CBR 125!

It's sweet for booting around town. But, anything over a 70kmh limit is kinda sketchy. 80kmh is pretty much the comfortable top end, where you don't need to have the throttle pinned to stay around 90-95.

Since I picked it up for like 1/3 of the value, I'm considering just flipping it, then looking for a 250-300CC. At that size, it would be something I could comfortably take on the highway and at least keep up with the slower traffic.

I'm looking forward to getting back onto a bike. Especially since I'm 5 or 6 years older now than I was the last time, and have quite a bit more maturity under my belt. Want to get the basics down really well, and I think this bike will be really good for it.

Interesting observations. That unsettled feeling at higher speeds would freak me out!

I've never ridden or had a motorcycle, but I really enjoy everything about them regardless.

My balance sucks, so probably not the best thing for me to have.

Balance is only hard when you're going slow. Once you're going over 10, it's pretty easy to manage.

Not so much being unsettled as it is just flat out slow... Which seems to be a common thing on this board?

Other issue is, when I had my first 125, I was young enough where other people's opinions mattered. Looking forward to just being able to ride this thing and not worrying about what other people will say/think.

Sweet deal. Slow bike faster.

Kinda what I'm thinking. The other thing I forgot about with the 125, is just how light it is. Will be a lot easier to learn how to control it properly.

Though, I've been looking at bigger bikes already... Honda CB/CBR 300 for 5ish thousand (or 3500 once I sell the 125) or a KTM Duke 390 for 5500 (or 4000 once I sell the 125)

So many temptations, and I don't even have my motorcycle license again yet.

KTM doesn't make for a great run-around bike. Service intervals are calculated by hours rather than mileage.
Have to keep on top of them consistently. Not a set and forget ride.

The 390 is made in India and shares a lot with the Royal Enfield fit and finish.
Don't recommend RE either.

Liking the Yamaha R3 and it's been out for a year or two.
If you want off road mudding, WR250 has a big following on ADVrider.com

Learning control is easiest on a bicycle on gravel and grass.
Finding your braking pressures both front, rear and balance is safer at low speeds.

Change your front brake to the right hand and get used to it. I do this on all my bicycles.

Back in the day in Asia just about every cool kid had an Honda NSR 2 stroke that looked like this but usually 250cc or less.

To be honest, I'll be riding the bike for likely less than 2000km per year. But, you do raise an excellent point for engine hours vs KM. I would need to have the bike idled every now and then while I'm gone, so that additional maintenance would be kind of sucky.

I did love my R6 until it blew up. But am a bigger fan of Honda. I'll probably check some deals out mid way through the summer and then figure it out then.

Worst thing you can do with a mothballed vehicle. Ride or do not. There is no idle.

Ah. Ok. Kawasaki has a new 400 out this year. May be a few deals up there come fall.
Ninja 400

I had a CB650 for 23 years. Great bike at the time, but the new offerings have become severely over-weight compared to other mfg.

aahgh: editing again.
Had a yammer XS400 before that and it was perfect for single cruises.
It got anemic for 2 up though. 650 is the sweet point if you have a passenger.

Currently I have a Suzuki SV650 naked bike that is the go-to for utility.
It's the MX5 of motorbikes. Been making them for yonks and can be cheap as chips.
