Shocks and struts fall strongly in the "mileage may vary" category. I have had struts blow after 50K and some still going strong at 200K.
That said I would put the value of a set with 40K on them around $50. They may be good for another couple hundred thousand miles or they may blow the day after you put them on and there is zero way to tell which way it will go.

I think, it’s all up to the road condition & how driver drive the car. Just like the tires, one person may take 6 years before changing them, while other person may take 6 months.
