Maybe someday.. I don't _hate_ wearing glasses, but it can be a bit inconvenient sometimes.

I was quoted over $10k here in the Bay Area. That was a while ago, maybe it has come down? I don't know of any health insurance that pays for LASIK.

I don't need to ask the Mrs., According to her everything is my fault.

Yep, "IF" you get old enough ....... ...... and after you have been through bifocals and trifocals and the eye doctor says there is nothing else to be done except surgically remove the cataracts ........ you will look into that.

That is on my "to do" list for next month, after my medicare complete kicks in ..... that I pay for ....... in addition to what I have been paying for the last 50 years ......

Both my parents had that done in both eyes. Pretty routine and painless these days to put new lenses in your eyes. Pretty amazing.

For that price it would be worth a road trip north.

Ha, fair enough. Ridiculous you'd need to still pay anything for care at this point.

Since you say that, I may have been slightly incorrect. That amount may have been per eye. But it's been a month or so and I didn't write it down. So..somewhere in that ballpark.

I hate glasses with a passion. I don't even wear sunglasses about 90% of the time I should, and don't go to 3D movies for the same reason.

My surgery (as I said a dozen or so years ago) was around $2,500 and I paid for it out of my Medical Flexible Spending Account. I believe you can also pay for it out of your HSA if you have one.

It's less expensive if you go to a place that eye surgery is all they do. It's like going to an imaging center instead of getting an MRI at the hospital. Same equipment/requirements/certifications and significantly cheaper because they don't have non-payers to deal with.

PRK laser is $3000+tax for both eyes up here or $3800 for lasik. In Canadian pesos that seems like a decent price comparatively.

My work benefits are pretty good for the most part, but my eyecare cover $200 + an eye exam... every 24 months. Pretty terrible considering that's about 3 months worth of contacts.
