Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at right now. Things aren't "bad" at my job, in terms of job stability, but it's... unpredictable, I think is the best way to put it. Luckily I've got a lot of time in, know my shit, and am becoming a fairly good supervisor for a work area. In addition, luckily my company isn't hit too hard when oil takes a shit, since a lot of our work is from a huge natural gas company, and there's always demand for that.

I've been somewhat looking at new jobs, but it's somewhat worrying since I'd be starting at the bottom again. Admittedly, even for the amount of BS I put up with at work, I'm not sure it's worth jumping to a new ship and not having the same confidence I have in my value to the company. Only way I could confidently go to a new job is if it was with the aforementioned huge NG company.

Being unemployed scares the shit out of me. Luckily I've got a few months of pay saved up, and I could scrape by on EI if it came to that. But it would be a pretty shitty situation in any case.
