They have not come up with a unit of measurement for that speed yet. It transcends time and space.

Less than 10 seconds.

1 year is about the time things go from "watching the baby" to "chasing the baby."

I want them to stop trying to get everyone to speak French and trying to push out English.

LOL
Why? They have been French for about 400 years.
Let me know when you get Spanish eliminated in California.

The way they are going about it is pretty extreme and ridiculous. Check out some of the news stories.

Edit: I also don't think it's fair to make the comparison to what is going on in Montreal with the whole French vs. English thing to "getting Spanish eliminated from California". Completely different situation and my initial comment never said "Eliminate French".

Dude! My father came from there. I spent every summer there for the first 14 years of my life. This "the way they are going" has been happening for 100 years and is not new. Not sure what news stories you are referring to but would guess they blow it way out of proportion as to what is reality. It is an official language of the country and other than a few die hard conservatives nobody in Canada cares if they have all French or not.

These are the kind of stories I was referring to:

" Today, Mayor Coderre appointed as Vice-chair of the STM a city councillor finds that there is Too much English at Montreal city hall.

Vision Montreal councillor Elsie Lefebvre complained in public that French was being disrespected in City Hall by the overuse of English.
The mayor, Gerald Tremblay dismissed her claims saying that such ideas were in her DNA, being a former Peekist.
"Tremblay's remarks follow Lefebvre's decision to rise on a question of privilege during a meeting of city council on Tuesday to contend her rights as a city councillor were being belittled "because this municipal council becomes more anglicized month after month, week after week."
This follows a complaint that a bilingual flyer was sent to homes around the Park avenue area encouraging people to shop on the street during a bothersome construction project.

The OQLF deemed the flyer legal, but chastised the city for setting a bad example."

The OQLF, or Quebec's Office de la langue française, routinely fines and bothers English businesses and community with trivial complaints and sizeable fees for using the English language. It's time to sign the petition to end this backwards organization which confusingly is allowed to exist in a bilingual country: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/it-...-to-close-down

I was told that in Quebec there is some by-law where all of your workstations at the office has to be in Canadian French (which is different from French French). There is a language police that will visit your office to perform an audit every 6 months to ensure compliance.

Depending on the outcome of WW3 if it even happens, eventually at this rate it would be Mandarin that would be pushing out English, not Canadian French.

@Clipdat

Can't quote.
Geeez those are petty filler news stories and are not even really news. The same thing has been written every day for the last 40 years. I thought you were talking about some big deal militant action or something. The OFFICIAL language of Quebec is French and they are simply attempting to protect that heritage. Nothing wrong with that.
At least they have pretty much given up the whole separation idea.

It is a Provincial law not a bylaw. Only public signage is required to be in French not work stations or company documents. Could be a company policy though I guess.

Mandarin will soon be the official language of Vancouver. Toronto must be close to being split between Mandarin and Sanskrit by now.
