For what it's worth, the only ones at the firm I work at who are PEs seem to be the ones with gigantic egos.

Most of ours don't have big egos, social skills, wives, hobbies, or much of anything really. They are just sort of there.

From the software engineering manager at my last job: "That's why I love managing engineers. No drama or complaints. Just shove them in a dark room with a computer and check every once in awhile to make sure they're fed, and they're perfectly happy."

Keeping them fed is easy! I have become quite convinced that at least one year of their schooling is dedicated to the art of detecting and scooping up left over food. The very second that everybody attending a lunch meeting has their food the engineers show up out of nowhere and ravage what remains. It is truly uncanny.
