They do look cool.

Just for charging my phone. But since I'm always on the move they never last. (In and out of suitcases or using my external charger in the plane)

Yeah... I'm worried about the flimsy plastic and tin connectors on both connected devices. They didn't design those for any significant crowbar leverage effect.
Hence the crappy flexible wires and lightweight plugs.

Acutally the most reliable USB cable I've ever had and still use to this day everyday for the last 10 years straight, is the micro USB cable I got from my Nokia 8600 Luna.

I guess being probably the first micro USB cable in the world it has to be made this well.

My favorite USB cable is the mini USB cable from my old Olympus E-1 camera it has ferrite cores on both ends and stiff AF.

I'm not into aftermarket cables except for audio.
