Then my uncle had a shadow box made with his unit patch, and the medals he was awarded. I saw them and I was like "haha, he saw some shit". My uncle (who also served with 11th field regiment RCA, the same unit I serve with) went and did some digging, turns out that he was a communications guy and a gunner in a tank. Fuck yeah grandpa for being a badass.

MomHawk and I met on a blind date, arranged over an oddball telephone dating service. (You called, listened to "postings" by the opposite sex, sent a letter to an address with a "posting number" on it and if the person was interested they called you back.) We both called the number on a fluke. She did it because her sister wanted to but wouldn't do it if MomHawk didn't. I did it because there was a business card left on my car at a local restaurant and it was a slow Thursday night.

We talked on the phone 3 times, went on our first date and I knew before the end of the dinner I would be marrying her. That was 30 years this year Friday before Thanksgiving. Next year is our 30th wedding anniversary.
