I get that. But the statement was that it's not brand loyalty if I don't buy new.

From the American Marketing Association dictionary- A brand is a "Name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's good or service as distinct from those of other sellers."

I buy Toyota products for, among other things, their design and reliability. Each of my vehicles are recognizable as Toyotas even without badges. Their reliability is also a feature of Toyota. I'm loyal to those concepts, and therefore to Toyota products. But not necessarily to the corporation.

If they stopped designing cars I like, or their reliability went down, I'd probably look elsewhere. If I was loyal to the corporation, I'd stick with them.

While I imagine Nissan's reliability is up there, they don't design cars very well. Other than a Fairlady and a 510, I've never owned a Nissan product.

Then you're loyal to a product. Not to the brand itself. Brand loyalty typically means you support the company of the products you buy. You don't do that on the second hand market.

If you buy used, you may not be directly contributing to the company's new vehicle sales figures, but you may contribute to:

- Parts sales for DIYers
- Service sales, which basically means parts sales for non-DIYers (oil, filters, tires, replacement parts, etc)
- Positive brand image (the general consensus among Toyota owners, new and used is that "Toyotas last forever". I talk to people every day who tell me this. This is basically marketing, which in turn drives new vehicle sales

What says that brand loyalty typically means a person supports the company? I don't see that. It seems by definition, a brand is the product.

Nice. My son had the first gen xB. I was amazed how solid it was. I really liked that vehicle.

Band loyalty is not a complex idea. It has nothing to do with where or how you purchase the product. Just the brand thats attached to the product and the loyalty that resides therein.

Just what I learned in my marketing degree.

Well, I was quick and dumb as a younger me and bought x2 ae86's that were going bad. I fixed one, the other sold for parts. Celi belonged to uncle who gave it to me, 3rd Corolla was a newer gen and used for school, pickup is what i have now besides FR-S and Rav4 is family's.

...and yeah lol I was horrid with cars. If I wasn't redlining it wasn't being driven right. Only the 22re and 4age could survive that.... /drool at the 4age screaming wot... /drool
