In Canada, our recently elected prime minister is working toward making falling off Earth legal within 2 years.

I am in favour since it will allow the sales to be taxed and reduce a huge underground economy.

That might be the most useful thing he does during his term.

Finally....I'm not the only one!!!! I heard that NASA developed special gravity boots in Antarctica to prevent people from falling off and astronauts also wear them when they go for lunar walk

This is exactly correct. The North/Up, South/Down is a human convention conceived by early map makers because they lived "up" and drew it that way. It could have just as easily been drawn the other way, same for east vs west.

For that matter, there is no reason why the north pole couldn't just as easily be the east pole and we rotate around a horizontal vs vertical axis.

Its all relative. But at least we have proof of gravity waves now. Ahhh, sweet, sweet empirical, peer-reviewed science.

I've got to admit I'm disappointed. I read the title of this thread as a suggestion, as in, "Hey, why don't we all head down to the neighborhood pub for some delicious refreshing adult beverages?" rather than as an existential question. I think falling off this earth sounds like a GREAT idea at times... I'm in if anyone else is interested in a road trip.
