Jalopnik to my knowledge doesn't operate a filter bubble, they post their "articles" as planned and they are displayed in chronological order, just past the three I listed are the five you listed, and since my post 3 or 4 more articles sit on top. My point was that as easily as you found a string of trashy articles I could find a string of quality articles.

Thanks, wasn't sure if it was the descriptor or not, at least Jalopnik put it in quotes unlike Reuters.

There's not nearly as clear of a line between good journalism and art as your post makes it sound. Good writing, and presentation is compelling, thought provoking and sometimes emotional. Walking this line specifically requires integrity due to the reasons you mentioned about disseminating information as a public service. There is art in this skill as Cronkite, Rather, and others have proven. Many of the headlines we see are of more "The Monkees" variety than "The Beatles". Chasing advertising dollars isn't an excuse for more of the former.

Jalopnik's parent is Gawker Media Inc. which I would be shocked if they at minimum didn't use targeted, rotating ads. Certainly formatting their ads to look the same as their article summaries/blog posts on the main page is borderline. The 5 posts I noted were posted as early as 8:08 AM PST through 9:48 AM PST. I authored my post and submitted at 11:19 AM PST. The Jalopnik posts you noted started at 11:14 AM PST then at 11:35 AM PST and finally 11:40 AM PST. Nobody "selected a string of trashy articles", merely what were the top 5 at the time.

Bumping this so it doesn't get buried behind Strat and my discussion.

That's exactly my point, if you had selected the top 5 posts an hour after you submitted it would have skewed very differently and aside from clickbaity titles really not too much to shit on, you made a judgement and argument on a small sample size that could easily be skewed.

Aston Martin ownership (12)
Japanese manufacturer consolidation (11:40)
Old Rallying Pics (11:35)
Big motorcycle engines in small bikes (11:14)
Scott Tucker arrest (10:48)

And, better than the change.org petition, Jalop has linked a site that takes in feedback for current legislation as well as listing full text of the bill for those who want to go hard on spewing legalese:

Interesting how no one is actually throwing out the EPA links for public comment. The White House is nice but the comments need to be directed to the EPA...

I know, but most people don't interact with the EPA, so my first link was an overview of the commenting process for the average person to understand.

Comments like these don't really help the case of enthusiasts:

But there are also some other well formed comments in there. What really gets me is that there are spam/virus comments in it... you'd think they'd have some deterrent from that.

The process for submitting a comment is literally two clicks.... any 5th grade level spam bot could generate comments.

So a bot that skipped from 4th grade to 5th can't?

"...Combination tractors; trailers used in combination with those tractors;
heavy-duty pickup trucks and vans; and
vocational vehicles. The proposal also
includes separate standards for the
engines that power combination tractors
and vocational vehicles."

And now it makes sense.

"
"This proposed action would affect
companies that manufacture, sell, or
import into the United States new
heavy-duty engines and new Class 2b
through 8 trucks, including combination
tractors, all types of buses, vocational
vehicles including municipal,
commercial, recreational vehicles, and
commercial trailers as well as 3/4-ton
and 1-ton pickup trucks and vans."

Well it certainly effects truck modifying, which is still reason for SEMA to be up in arms. I'm guessing a "recreational" vehicle are things like motorcycles and the X-Bow? Bit scary on this one, especially with a run away Supreme Court that can legislate from the bench now.

I'd say sign the petition.

Has anyone else had the idea that this might be trying to target the "Rollin' Coal" douche crowd?
