lol, randomly feel like posting here.

Back when this car first came out people were putting 1000 dollar carbon fiber driveshafts in their cars. I didn't say anything but thought that they were crazy.

Just about any other weight reduction mod is cheaper per pound.

Lithium ion battery: 300 bucks gets you something near stock battery capacity, drops 20lbs.
Wheels: Same cost, drops 20lbs instead of 10, and has a bigger moment of inertia loss.
Flywheel: Similar cost, much greater impact on acceleration.
Brakes: Similar cost per pound lost, but you get improved braking performance.
Fiberglass seats: Similar price, drops several times more weight.

Even silly aluminum pulleys (not including crank) are similar dollars per pound, yet they spin faster so they're actually worth more.

I would like some more explanation of this noticeable effect.

So you can feel a difference in shifting with a lighter DS??
WHAT do you feel? Engine revs faster? Trans engages smoother?

You can feel a difference in initial acceleration with the lighter DS?
Why would that be?

What is this "dead spot" you speak of? The stock DS twists some before the car moves? Or is there 0.1 degrees of "slop" in the stock DS that you can detect?
Or can you feel the difference in the rotational inertia of the stock DS while it is at zero RPM and transitioning to 1 RPM?

Do tell.

I didn't notice any change in acceleration/power etc. What I did feel was: when you are stopped, you shoddy into first, start releasing the clutch, there was a small delay and a clunk noise/jolt in the car(both very small). This bothered me but I didn't even think about it that much until I got the new solid driveshaft. Then I realized how annoying it had been. Maybe my drive shaft was extra sloppy. But it was only when moving from a stop that I'd feel/hear it

What I quoted from you is pretty accurate

One wonders what the consequences are of the omission of that U joint. They didn't just add it to save money, after all.

Driveshaft critical speed.

Not something to be messed with as it's a failure that would happen at speed...

I recall reading that one of main reasons for two piece driveshaft is crash safety. In frontal crash engine moves to & below cabin, and that stock driveshaft easily "folds" where and how needed. Not sure how one piece & stronger aftermarket driveshaft will affect that picture.
