It's sort of sad that I get a lot of opinions and very little justification of these opinions.

As if no right-foot-braker ever confused their pedals, I myself witnessed it several times. Think about it: if you are used to using your right foot for BOTH braking and gas, it is easy to mix-up in emergency, because it's the same foot, just in a slightly different spot. If you trained yourself to always use your left foot for braking, I'd argue that the likelihood of a mix-up is much smaller, BECAUSE you are using a different foot and even a different brain hemisphere.

Interestingly, I just googled around and immediately found an article which argues exactly along my reason 1.

If left foot breaking was so great, why isn't the pedal on the left?

It was absolutely a hazard to navigation and should NEVER BE DONE on the street. PERIOD.

I agree in principle, but I know that I don't do it. I can see the reflection of my center stop light in my rear window.

I guess the reasons are: 1. traditions, 2. switching between MT and AT (I don't find it to by a problem with rare switching, but some may do, especially if they need to switch often)

Ok so that article you posted tells you to rest your foot on the dead pedal, far from the brake when there is no danger. And hover when there is... who is being watchful for danger then pushes the wrong pedal anyways? I dunno about you guys but I can't hover over a pedal for a prolonged period of time, my ankle/shin muscles get tired. How would you hover over the pedal for hours on end(say rush hour traffic) with your knees clamped together to reach the pedal?

My mother had a center brake light in her rear window as well.
Didn't stop her from still doing it.

Here are four reasons why instructors teach to only use one foot in an automatic.
  1. Under heavy braking the left foot must push against the floor to brace your body. You will have total control of brake, accelerator and steering during an emergency.
  2. It is less confusing to switch from an automatic to a manual vehicle.
  3. The left foot, resting on the the brake pedal, may inadvertently push down the brake pedal and light up the brake lights whilst accelerating.
  4. There is less chance of a mixup between accelerator and brake. After a lifetime of using two feet, older drivers may get confused, pressing the wrong pedal. The ones that had used the right foot only all their lives are less likely to have trouble later on."
"It’s not a reasonable way to operate a vehicle on the street at any kind of speed. If you’re in a car as a passenger and you see the driver using the left foot to slow said car, you should speak up. It’s dangerous and not advised, period."

That wasn't the OP just someone else who had commented on the fact that they do it and their reason for doing so is quite logical
