To be fair, yeah they are pretty good in terms of reliability. But they're damn expensive to begin with and tuning them get's even more expensive!

Maybe...

Great engine. OK it's 20 years old but it's solid a f*ck and as you say is easily tuned.

We'll be developing a kit with Rotrex and pushing 400bhp minimum to start with!

You could get an LS2 or 3 shipped from Oz smudge with the pound buying two ozzy $ atm.

Shipping is reasonably cheap atm as well due to world trade being way down, so just a thought .

LS3 is still around £5k for just the engine. A lot more complicated to wire in as well

The 1UZ is much simpler, £400 for an engine and will last forever and a day

I might've been interested in the SC... but prefer the 210+ as I don't want to build the engine!
Pity.
I also think the costs converting to pounds might've been interesting... but I'm sure you'll be able to offload it to someone.

Anyone know if they've changed manufacturing country/company, source material, change in leadership? I mean something must've happened for that many failures surfacing.
You know, it's funny you mention this... While I love my HKS Spec-L exhaust (picked up in '15), the welds were absolute poo. I won't clutter this thread with OT photos but I had to take a Dremel to the inside of every pipe. So much excess filler buildup inside the pipes it looked like it was built by first time welding students. That said, sound/weight reduction/overall look (Ti) are fantastic, it was just disappointing to have to finish the product for them. Not really the kind of QC you'd expect for the price and their brand.

Few people on here running the 335 on stock internals with e85 bud. Only reason I wanted to build it was because we can get e85 in the UK - not sure what the situation is in SA?

You'd be looking at around 81,000ZAR

Thanks... yeah we don't get ethanol easily - but I've got a few contacts that will sell me as many litres as I can store in the garage

As I suspected 81k is pretty much what I can get a new one for here, so sadly not worth it for me (plus the engine building side). Our currency is just too cr@p unfortunately!

I am still really keen to hear about your v8 though!!!

So we've finally had confirmation from HKS that they are replacing the stroker kit due to a manufacturing error on one of the small ends from my original kit

They were also going to replace my block, but seeing as we're going for the V8 swap, HKS very kindly listened to my needs and have offered compensation rather than replacing a part which will then be useless to me

I really couldn't have asked for a better outcome from this difficult situation

The car's now back with me for a little bit to receive some much needed TLC
She was picked up from Abbey's this morning and transported back home to spend a few weeks on my driveway. Just want to say a big thank you again to Mark and the team at Abbey for everything they've done so far. It's been a tough few months but Mark and Scott kept me up to date every step of the way and have really helped me out in so many ways

It's great to see her again and even better to have her home, but she is looking a bit rough - no engine, no gearbox, rusty brake discs, filthy dirty etc

Can see through the car from the interior!

And there seems to be some bits missing under the bonnet...

I couldn't help but have a bit of tinkering time with her after so long, so decided to start fitting my aftermarket steering wheel boss and quick release, but didn't get very far when I realised I've got the wrong hub. Just 1 character difference in the part number, should hopefully have the correct one soon thanks to Tarmac Sportz

Various boxes of bits also came with the car, still a a few more bits to collect later in the week!

Last thing to do today was to put her up on axle stands and remove the wheels, ready for a deep cleaning session at the weekend (if I get time!)

V8 has been stripped, blasted and painted ready to go. Gearbox is being custom made using a BMW casing as the 1UZ only ever came with an automatic transmission in the Soarer. Hopefully she won't be sitting on the driveway for too long, we're planning to have the V8 conversion completed by the end of April/beginning of May
