Silencers are a good idea for the complainers, yes.

I have the TRD Intake and Exhaust. I never had an issue with the noise. At the same time, I would not want to go any louder either. If I go any louder it will affect my stereo and any phone calls I have to make. It was a pretty expensive mod but I'm happy I did it.

No issues here with mine. Actually adds to the fun of driving this car. The build quality is top notch and no mods needed to fit it.

I didn't mean single exhaust exclusively as there are other aftermarket dual exhaust that are lighter and louder than some single systems

I'll just add my input too then,

I thought it was too loud when I just got the TRD exhaust.

2(?) years later, and I STILL think it's too loud. The cold starts never fails to wake my family and my tenants up and possibly my neighbors, since I always see their curtains move when I start the car.

But I don't regret it.

Nah, that is just the car shaking the windows. It will be fine.

Seats up made a BIG difference. Less drone, more deep tone. Still louder than I thought lol. But I know the only aftermarket exhaust quieter than the TRD is supposedly the Q300.

Putting the seats up helps a lot with the TRD exhaust. Adding OEM the trunk lid liner (get it from Subaru) also helps.

To each their own but rear seat down driving? Of course it will be louder! lol I am going to put sound deadener in the rear where the tools and spare are. Highway driving tire noise is louder than the TRD exhaust. But im in jersey where potholes and concrete highways stay alive for generations.

I'm at 15,000 miles and my TRD exhaust is way quieter than it was a year ago when I took delivery. It still errs on the loud side (for this 32 year old professional, anyway), but shifting early keeps it from being obnoxious when driving through neighborhoods. Still sounds great when accelerating. At 70mph and up it can be a little loud for cruising. I probably notice it more when coming down a hill and the vehicle is engine braking than anything, though.

I will say that shifting early to keep quiet in the neighborhood does highlight how this engine sounds like a bucket of bolts below 2k RPM. Subaru could learn a thing or two about NHV from Toyota.

At 50K and it still sounds exactly the same as day one (a year ago). Don't know how it could get "way quieter"?

I figured that the particulates that these DI engines are known for finally coated the inside of the exhaust and toned it down a bit. It probably took a couple thousand miles before mine seemed to break in.

I never noticed any difference but can actually check.
I metered mine at 86 db from 10 feet and 4,000 rpm back when I first got it. Next week I will throw the meter at it and see where it is now. You have made me curious if there was a change that I just didn't notice.
