You know we talk all about oil temps, has anyone really determined what the most efficient oil temp is for this motor?

Ever motor is different obviously but 230F is not out of the realm for most cars. Oil temps too low can also not be efficient.

Did a search for oil temp data logs, and it seems either it is blown out of proportion or no one is logging.

I like this style, and its just that a different style. But yes a upgraded radiator probably makes sense but the Koyo for our car is actually really reasonably priced.

Log results thread.

I've seen 240 F Oil temp doing 6-8 pulls in the "street" on 80 degree ambient temperature.

According to Perrin, power is lost (with Dyno to prove it) if I remember correctly above 230 F, so if that number is correct, you ideally want your oil temp between 200-230 F.

Any idea on how to get a 230F thermostat? Could we reach out to mocal? Is there a universal solution we could use?

Why between 200-230F? Is there some advantage to having the oil as hot as possible? Given the data wouldn't a 200F thermostat work well?

You want the oil over 100C so the water can evaporate leaving just lubricant on your components. 105-120c is a good operating range for most oils.

If this was a track ONLY car, then yes, I would go for it and hack away whatever is needed to fit it and other nearby components. But the radiator being so big, introduces other limitations like for example not being able to run a CAI like Perrin's because the radiator is not only thicker but taller and the CAI tube would not fit.

Comes with a graph as well:

Looks like it actually decreases water temps!

That is a side effect of running cooler oil. I have similar results with a fbm mocal cooler. Oil peak from 135 down to 115 and coolant more like 105 to 90 due to koyo radiator.

Impressive results from this little cooler it looks like a viable option and will create less heat soak than air-oil.

The 230f power loss thing from Perrin must be tune dependant.

I've been paying attention to this type of solution. Hope they release one for the AT's.

Couldn't you source this from other Subaru parts and create your own? Or would that be too difficult to accomplish?
