Question Subaru BRZ engine + tranny into WRX body = RWD wagon ?

Can subaru do this ? As far as I know there is NO
RWD Japanese wagon here in the USA at least not
at the price point of the BRZ.

As far as the engine goes its already in the Imprezza
but with some minor adjustments, and the tranny is the
one being source from toyota(which came from the IS )

Personally I want RWD, I have not much use of 4wd
since I do not rally or go off road since I live in the city.

I ordered the BRZ but want the practicality of a wagon.

I still want the BRZ, but I dream about the BRZ wagon

It would be a lot cheaper/easier to just replace the center diff with a spool and remove the front drive shafts.

The FA20 is a bit different than the FB20 plus the AZ6 is not the same as the gearbox used in the WRX. It would mean fabrication to fit the FA20 into a WRX body since the engine sits fore of the front axles. Plus I have no idea how far back aligning the shifter would require moving the engine. If money was no object I'd do it myself.

I'm one of the people hoping the FA20 w/ AZ6 ends up in a sedan or hatchback body style but rumors have been thin at best. So I'm basically waiting until I get a chance to inspect the rear seating of the BRZ in person before changing my mind.

Honestly if you're looking at the engine swap route and RWD I'd look for a better body style than the WRX. The WRX is practical but nothing about the style is interesting or even sporty. For example I was pricing rolling chassis BMW 318i(rare) or 318ti(super rare) for swapping a Subaru engine into. The best combo for a RWD Subaru is the new FA20 w/ AZ6 but I'd probably spend the better part of a year prepping the body before even picking up one. Since I'm basically looking at removing all the BMW wiring to integrate the Subaru ECU I don't need to deal with BMW electronics as much and I can get the sedan/hatchback I want.

He's talking about using the BRZ engine/gearbox. Which if he wanted the WRX engine that would be best. I'm curious how wiring works for Subarus, don't they have all the controls integrated into the ECU?

I'm going to be jealous of a Turbo'd 2.5l FB25 WRX when it comes out.

It will get better gas mileage and more power, to boot. It won't be here for another couple of years though...

A 200hp N/A engine in a 3200+lb car would be a waste.

This will be infinitely more complicated than you could possibly imagine. You'll be 20k into the project minus the cost of purchasing a 5-door WRX. Do you plan on driving the car competitively? If not, just keep the AWD.
