Going on 70. Bought a 2017 86 after seeing one in a Toyota lot. Never heard of it before; or the BRZ, for that matter. My wife first learned to drive on a Triumph Spitfire in her youth and the 86 appealed to her. I’ve never been a real car guy, but the 86 really resonated with me.

We have a new BRZ now. Never thought I would own anything other than a Toyota. It just seemed that Subaru had their act together on this one.

Old/young person's car is total bs. Unfortunately I've been noticing fewer and fewer young sports car enthusiasts over the years. These days a manual transmission is an anti-theft device. I'm 42 and my BRZ replaced a turbo miata and a crosstrek. I miss my miatas, but the BRZ makes more sense now as I no longer have multiple road courses in my backyard.

I just got a 2022 GR86 to replace my 2013 BRZ w/ 120k miles and 50+ trackdays. My drivers license says I'm 52, but I identify as a 16 year old.
My wife is still waiting for me to grow up.

All I can say is don't worry about what people think. The car is for you, not for them. When you start living just to impress others it's not going to go well.

I'm 36 and have been thinking of selling my f80 m3 for an 86. The car is fast as hell but very boring at legal speeds. The manual isn't that great. Sound is terrible. Tons of lag.

I'm also 36 and own a 2020 M340i wich I love and do track and I owned and tracked a 2018 M2 before. I could of went and bought a G80 or a GT4 etc. But there is just something special about a lightweight affordable car that you don't worry about scratchs and putting miles on it, just enjoy !

I'm 53. And I am totally stealing your line about identifying as a 16 year old. Sue me if you must.

Awesome. Keep it up.

My mom says I still act 16...

At 16 I had a 92 Civic with a full GSR swap. It was awesome! Still miss that thing and so does my mom. lol

If it helps, I ain't buying a GR86 because I need to save money. However, I'm the happy owner of a Gen 1. If I had cash to spare, I'd upgrade... no matter if I'm 40+ or not.

Im 44. Just bought one (a '22 BRZ actually) to be a dedicated track day car instead of my 911. Im amazed how good it is on the street let alone on the track. The car is just FUN at all speeds! The chassis and suspension are spot on!

There was a gentleman from AZ that was on these forums back in 2012 to around 2014, 2015 or so that was 78 or 79 when he got the car. He was a retired insurance adjuster from MI as I recall. He sold his FR-S and bought a Mini after a few years since it was getting harder on his hips and knees during ingress/egress. Nice guy.

I was 47 when I got my twin back in 2012 and I still have it. It's so modified that I couldn't bare to take a huge loss to update to a newer one. On the other hand, for those that will get a new one, enjoy!!! It's a heck of a fun car without sacrificing practicality completely (that would be an MX-5 or 718 or Supra among others). .......

FYI Nissan and Mazda both suck! lol
