Exactly. Those who expect a different experience are in for a rude awakening. My brain barely realizes it is a different car.

You will never know until you drive one yourself. I will eventually. But my 16 is paid off and lots of fun with mods with 70k miles. I will save my money for a weekend toy rather than buy a similar car for DD highway commute.
As PBR said, maybe a used one in a few years from now when they are cheap. I never say never. |

My 2020 GT86 with performance package is way more refined than 2012/2013 model. Thats enough for a car in this price category in terms of sports car. Now, I will be double happy if I figure out 2nd gen is more better in terms of build quality.

looks like they haven't done much with 6th gear and how it relates to road trips or cruising
still at around 3400 rpm doing 80mph. really wish they would have lowered it. my 09 civic with 128 ft-lbs is spinning at 2600 rpm by comparison |

Yeah. Sixth gear is a cruising gear and it shouldn't get above 3k at 80 imo. It's like they're still planning for the ol' double-nickel highway speeds.

I will be the downer here though, 2nd gen are a rounding error away exactly the same as 1st gens as far as refined goes... |

I have to disagree there. The increase in body stiffness alone makes the car feel much more solid. That will lead to less squeaks and rattles down the road too. The switchgear is nicer in most places too, ac controls and window switches for example. Overall It feels like a very similar car but saying it’s a rounding error is a stretch. There are real noticeable improvements that are very apparent coming from a 1st Gen. |

stock for stock the motor is much smoother and quieter, and the the ride is apparently much better. None of these would matter if the car is modded though because those either fixed or ruined the stock form. Interior wise just having the dual HVAC setup makes the car feel less cheap than the basic interior imo. The newer trim pieces makes the interior feel a little better because they're nicer/better pieces of trim (cuz the initial vinyl material is replaced with a better softer feeling leatherette material or the alcantara material, and the hard plastic trim is replaced by a not-as-cheap looking fake carbon fibre plastic trim) |

The fact the 2nd gen isn't miles different from the 1st to me is a positive. I don't want it to be, let's face it the 1st gen was great, hence why we all had one.
Evolution not revolution, that'll do for me. |

I have one small rattle at the base of the windshield (15% of the time) and a slight wind whistle in the driver's side window (25% of the time, with side gusts), other than that remarkably rattle-free at 62k miles and 40+ track days. Stereo is not great but good enough... Hate touch-screen controls... |

oh I wasn't comparing a 2nd gen to the first in my last post. I was merely talking about the first gen and its refresh and how the latter cars got more refined and feels more refined just by having some trim differences.
IM aware of the dual HVAC available in the various model years of first gen |
