I think I had seen the invoice has a ~9% markup, thereabouts. So, a base FR-S might have $2K markup or slightly less.
Dealers might make some profit on freight/PDI as well. For example in Canada the shipping and PDI are ~$1600.00 with I think half of it for PDI. The hour or so it takes to prep (lets say 2 hours just to be safe) cost nowhere near that much. Also, often the cost of a vehicle includes interest to carry it as inventory for as few months, known as the lot plan. Since the twins usually sell fast, that money is saved as well. The salespeople typically get 25% of the markup, though stuff like lot plan and PDI markup likely only goes to the dealer themselves. I worked for a Mazda dealer years ago that paid 20% and they hid most their profits in the back end so salespeople were SOL. Imagine, selling a pickup truck, spending a half day doing a dealer trade and getting less that $100 for your trouble. Some high end cars can have a 20% markup at retail. eg. BMW, MB excluding entry level models. There is no way to determine what the manufacturer's cost is. They probably set a target which has a certain amount of profit but there are many variable costs. Even years later recalls cut into their profits.
