I have both an 04 WRX and a 16 BRZ. My suggestion. Keep the BRZ, get a used Subaru, WRX if you can afford. Days you got the kid or have to pick up parents use WRX, others days BRZ. That’s what I do. Sometimes I have to stop home and switch cars, not ideal, but better than giving the BRZ up, too much fun to drive. Plus with two cars modding is easy, never have to worry about a car being down, just use the other one.

Op said there’s no room for another car unfortunately.

Clearly the answer is to sell the coming first-born to a mythical contract-writer in exchange for a larger garage.

I'm not sure what I would offer in this situation TBH. WRXs are nice, but I can't say I enjoyed the ride in the couple I've had the chance to drive or ride in. People tend to know what to expect from the BRZ's ride quality based on looks. If only Mazda would get the rumored RWD Mazda 6 platform into production for his sake!

I know but having gone through it myself, I am trying to give him something to think about. Sure it might not be affordable now, but it depends on your career. I was lucky and better jobs and more pay came overtime. Learn from me, I was about to pull the trigger on a sweet old 1972 air cooled 911. It was 22k. But I was having my second child and did not take the risk. Well, I realize now I could have easily afforded it and now the car is worth 50k. Gotta wait for the market to cool before I get into that project.

I also gave up on a1979 Bronco that my dad gave me because of kids and gas mileage. Man I wish I had that now.

Just a thought before you get rid of a car you love.

no, you need to keep at least one boy and one girl for future spare parts as the parents bodies start to wear down. after that...

Nobody noticed this thread was bumped from a year ago? The fellow probably had his kiddo 6 months ago!

Ignoring that. A WRX is a great option if you want to keep to a performance car. Otherwise, any AWD sedan/suv/crossover will do the trick.

sometimes shouting into the abyss is more fun than getting a response.

I was getting all set to ask why he needed a car less than 2 years old when I noticed that. Then I was wondering how many posts I'd have to see before someone commented that it was a year old post!

I would recommend going to a little bit older BMW 4 door. I miss my E46 and you can get newer than that for under $30k.

If you're anywhere near 6ft tall, E46s are too small for today's car seats. I've been there in 2015. E90 is barely big enough.

I'm 6'2". No car is a great fit for me with a helmet on but my E46 (zhp) was decent (despite having the sunroof). I raced it until last year when the outside rear tire debeaded mid corner and spun into the armco.

EDIT: It was very comfortable for daily driving though.

Ouch, sorry about that.

I’m 6’0”, but I’m all torso. I was less than 1” from the roof without a helmet in my ZHP, surprisingly I fit much better in the BRZ.

We got a used ford flex for our family and I would not give it up for anything. It was cheap, under 18k with extended warranty. Plenty of room for all the crap that goes with 2 kids, plus with both sets of seats down you can carry a shit alod of stuff for Costco and home Depot runs. Gas mileage sucks but no other complaints. When rdy get a real race car like Miata or a cheap twin down the road.

Hence my desire to find a smooth-top E46

No sunroof gives you back 2-3"
