You just don’t notice. The compressor declutches, but the evap fan keeps running. The evaporator has enough heat capacity to provide cold air without the compressor for a bit.

AC compressors have been doing this on most cars for 20 years.

Know what? Hadn't ever noticed that on the FR-S.

However, my old '98 Contour, with its (maybe) 115 hp and 4-AT, when you went full throttle, hot air would start blowing through the vents. Then it would start blasting cold when you let off.

Not sure if there was something else going on, but it was always funny because going WOT in that car was all the time and it was pretty obvious.

C/D results for the BRZ limited 6MT:

0-60: 5.3 sec
1/4: 14.0 sec @ 100 mph

Skidpad: 0.94 g

Curb weight: 2843 lbs

Given the weight and 1/4 trap speed, seems to corroborate the 206-209 whp dynos we’ve seen!

Is this in print or is there an online article too? Can’t find it on Google.

Print only as far as I know. I snapped a picture so you can see the rest of the numbers.

C&D reference of a 2016 FRS, which is how I'm looking at it.

0-60 mph: 7.1 sec (+1.8 second)
1/4: 15.4 sec @ 93 mph ( +1.4 second & 7 mph)
Skidpad: 0.86 g (+ .08)

Decent improvements without adding much cost. My car had an MSRP of $27,425. Not bad.

Yea considering that’s 31,344.72 in 2021 dollars, the cost increase is negligible.

I’m shocked it does 0-60 in 5.3s. I thought it would get really close to the S2000 but not quite beat it from a dig, since it’s missing so much tire in the back and weight over the rear axle compared to the S2000. It’s like they benchmarked the S2000 and decided they needed to *just* beat it.

C/D numbers for the S2000:

5.4s (+0.1) to 60 and 14.1 (+0.1) @ 97mph (-3) in the quarter

AP2 S2000s typically trapped at around 99-100 mph (with AP1s averaging about 1mph lower) so this is right on par. Better than expected given the SAE rated power figures. Should be much more enjoyable to drive on a back road.

Yeah the comparison with the original FR-S, ND2 Miata softtop, AP1 and AP2 S2000 are interesting. You can see the gen 2 basically leaps the field (although added around 138 lbs according to CD).

0-60
- 2022 BRZ: 5.3 sec
- AP1 S2000: 5.4 sec
- AP2 S2000: 5.4 sec
- ND2 Miata: 5.7 sec
- 2013 FR-S: 6.4 sec

1/4
- 2022 BRZ: 14.0 @ 100 mph
- AP1 S2000: 14.1 @ 99 mph
- AP2 S2000: 14.1 @ 97 mph
- ND2 Miata: 14.5 @ 95 mph
- 2013 FR-S: 14.9 @ 95 mph

Weight:
- ND2 Miata: 2345 lbs
- 2013 FR-S: 2705 lbs
- AP1 S2000: 2835 lbs
- AP2 S2000: 2840 lbs
- 2022 BRZ: 2843 lbs

Times and weight are pretty much comparable to the S2k with a difference of a 0.1 sec. I would say the advantage of '22 BRZ is the much better torque of 250Nm (AP1 S2k had only 208Nm in US & EU) and not the horsepower. FA24 is not really a VTEC and the figures say the same. It is not an underrated functional fiction engine dyno'ed at 209whp. With a ~16% of loss how much would be the power of such an engine on the crank? 250hp? Lol.

Those are impressive numbers. I know that the early frs would do 14.9 and 6.3 on a good day. They knew what they were shooting for with the new car.

That’s quite a bit faster than I expected. Even with the rollout.

Damn, December can’t get here fast enough.

I would have never guessed Toyota would pull a BMW and underrate the engine. Color me impressed. I'd love to be proven wrong with my K24A2 comparisons should a catless header and tune eke out 220whp+ from the FA24!

I mean I was looking at the King Motorsports dyno in the two SavageGeese vid. Found some plots for AP2 S2Ks on the exact same dyno. Mostly stock ones were pulling about 205-210 whp which is minimally lower compared to the commonly quoted whp figures for S2Ks.

Assuming that, the extremely consistent 209whp from the FA24 should be about right on other dynojets which would make 220 possible without even a tune (maybe).
