What the fuck is the point of doing inventory if no one even bothers to sign out our equipment? Like 90% of the things I've inventoried so far haven't been signed out, so as far as the company is concerned, it's all on the shelf still.

This shit puts me into a blind rage.

Ah, but because we have over $100k of equipment missing, and no one signed it out, we have no one to ask "well where the fuck is it, numb nuts?"

And doing inventory tells you this and should lead to some sort of change in procedure if it costs the company that much money. Dont know how easy that is but I would venture to say dont hold your breath

I tried to make the point clear last year while doing inventory last year with tons of missing equipment too. I mentioned it to my boss, I sent out a group wide email, spoke in person with my colleagues. Nothing came from it.

Seems as though the company would rather replace everything missing this year, instead of holding people accountable.

These are the same people though who send equipment back absolutely filthy. That was another point I addressed last year at inventory time that fell on deaf ears.

All good though, I've learned my lesson and next year if my boss asks me to deal with it, I'll politely decline.

Wonder if it just costs less to replace since shit breaks anyway then to come up with a better process and implement it (since it seems like it would probably best be solved by having a person designated to it)

The solution to the problem is having people log onto their company provided laptops, go onto the company server, pull up the inventory tracker, then enter their names into the provided spots for the equipment they're going to be using. A process that takes maybe 30 minutes at the most.

That's a long time for something that really has no conseauence in the end if you don't do it

Shieeeet, I totally know how you feel man. I do inventory every quarter and same shit happens. In the end of the work year (June), higher up go apeshit how much shit they lost and how much it's gonna cost them replace... but they're not implementing the sign-in or out. So I tell em every year "It's you guys fault." and walk out of the meeting.

& Like finch said, 30mins is a bit long. make it 2~5mins form

Welcome to part of my day to day work. What should get done and what does get done can be miles apart. Unfortunately all to normal a situation when priorities conflict.

Signing things out is a once a year thing. There are between 20 and 60 items to be accountable for. That's why it's such a long process.
