WHAT? 5 GALLONS? Check and see if it is running out the tail pipe! It should be overflowing out of the dipstick port at an alarming rate if you put 5 gallons in.
Please tell me you mean quarts!

Sure it could be done with some work and cash but you seriously have to ask if that work and cost is worth it.
I think the security system/keyless entry system has to be changed as well. And likely the ABS control module.

After looking into it, I think it makes more sense for anyone in this position that wants the new engine to just buy a 2017+.

5 gallons or 5 quarts? 5 Gallons is way to much. The engine should hold about 5.5 to 5.8 quarts of oil.

Yeah, just realized my mistake. Meant to say quarts. But I guess, I was not expecting emptying a 5 quart container and not even get the mark on the dipstick to the max. Anyway, bought another container of oil and will be filling it up later.

It needs 5.5 to 5.8 so it is in the right spot on the stick with 5 already in it.

Finally was able to drive the car home and I am so glad that the swap so far turned well. Will be observing the car the next few days..

I discovered that someone stole my exhaust tips while it was parked while I was waiting to do this engine swap!

Glad to find this thread as I'm faced with the same project. 2013 FRS needs a motor. Looking for a 15-16, glad to see they will drop right in as long as the harness is there. Now just gotta find a motor. Anyone have any reputable sources for used motors? California if possible.

Sorry to piggyback off this thread, but I'm in the same position right now where the engine on my '13 FRS popped and the only engine I've been able to track down was off a '15 BRZ.

A local reputable shop told me there are some subtle differences between the FRS and BRZ engines that it wouldn't be worth it to bother with a full engine swap between the 2. So far I haven't been able to find any differences between them though.

Are there actually any differences at all between the FA20 on the FRS and BRZ and do they pose any additional challenges when doing a full swap (other than transmission)?

I was also told that when I was shopping around. I don't believe that there are any differences between the FRS and BRZ engines (assuming all the same year model being compared). I had mentioned that my car was a 2013 and I was looking for a 2015/2016 engine and they tell me that it is not compatible based on their database. But with the help of members of this forum who had clarified that the 2015/2016 was a "plug-and-play" to the 2013, I just told them that it would work. Just make sure that all wirings, sensors, coilpacks are there. To keep it simple, if your car is manual look for a manual engine so that you will not have to deal with having to change things around say you ended up getting an engine from an automatic car.

Both companies have different designations for the engine (Subaru FA20 and Toyota 4U-GSE) but they are identical in all ways. Both companies use totally different part numbers for all the parts since they use different numbering systems. Other than some body, trim and interior parts everything else is identical except for that part number.
