Gotta love the first point on page 262.

It's on page 191 of the manual I got with my 860.

For those interested here is the link.

Toyota 86 Owners Manaul

I'm all for helping people find information but if you spend 25-30k on a vehicle buy a 2 dollar coffer sit down and read the manual. At the very least scan the table of contents so you have an overview of the primary features.

You missed the implied sarcasm. There are 4 pages talking about the assist in the manual.
Everybody should read the manual for anything they buy but it is especially important with cars. There is a lot of cool stuff in there.

- Within 5 seconds after the indicator lights turn off, release the "Traction-off" button, then press the switch again within 2 seconds of releasing it.
- The hill start assist ON indicator will illuminate and then turn off.
- Turn the engine off, then restart the engine
- If done correctly the hill start assist ON indicator should now be illuminated.

So am I the only one who read the manual 2-3 times while waiting for my car to be delivered?

For me, there are far too many idiots in automatic transmissions that sit 2 inches off my bumper at a light. The extra peace of mind that i wont roll back into them as much is nice. Even if i don't technically need it.

To OP: Hill Start Assist wont actually help you get started on a hill, just give you a bit more time before you roll backwards. You will still stall if you let out the clutch wrong, and you will start to roll as soon as clutch engagement starts (this includes backwards if you are too timid once engagement starts).

Nope.
Roll back into them. They'll learn.

im amazed people still do that in san francisco of all places, even on those ridiculously steep hills where even an automatic will roll backwards.

Hill start and ebrake are not needed if you know how to drive a stick shift.
