Just 3 weeks ago they have taken fault because a Subaru Rep came and deemed it their fault after inspecting my car. He noted there was clogged oil passages due to old RTV in the oil pan and oil passages. The dealership repairing my vehicle now is only replacing the camshafts, intake and exhaust valves, oil and filter, and a rod bearing (not sure which or how many, they are not being transparent with me). Do you have think this work may seem sufficient, mind you i had driven nearly 400-500 miles after the recall and noticed the issues maybe 50miles in. They told me I was shit out of luck at the beginning and this was my only vehicle to get to work daily.
Without seeing the damage it is impossible to say whether it is enough repairs or not. Will just have to go with what they say and if it blows again then they are still responsible even if they try to weasel out of it.

Even better idea. Call up GE, produce a 3D printer sized robot. Fixtures to locate a known component, programs for every piece that needs sealant. Might take 20 years to pay off, but that no worse than a $80k alignment setup.

Machine shop buddy said they hired a robot and fired 4 employees. It’s the way of the future
We have about 50 robots in the plant. They only displace about 10 people though. Due to the very heavy and repetitive nature of the work the 10 people that they displace were at huge risk of injury back when they did the same tasks manually. Since they need to be maintained their use actually created a number of better tech jobs that make up for many of the unskilled labour positions they eliminated. There are many positives to robots and they will not eliminate everybody's jobs like people were so afraid of back in the 80s.

Thanks for the input, It just sucks that I've been out a car for so long. I was scared when they wanted to rebuild the motor instead of replacing a short block or with a new engine. Especially when they quoted me $9k to do the work they are doing now before they were deemed at fault. I would think it would've been cheaper on their end if they just replaced the motor.

Ya I don't know why they didn't just throw a short block in there. Unless of course they now have a shortage of assembled short blocks due to the number of failures. It isn't like they would have massive numbers of assembled pre 17 engines sitting around in warehouses. Distinctly possible they have used up the supply so just rebuild when they can.

That one piece of silicone doesn't explain all of that.

Ya it sounds like they are still treating the effect and not the cause.

Per the service manager at the dealership, that is the case. Subaru of America had zero in the U.S., and the only inventory was with Toyota, but I don't know how many.

And the service department can only do what the field service engineer approves.

Update:

Got my car back on Friday
There was some lame o fuckery when I picked it up. Trunk lid was open sitting in the parking lot with my sub for the world to see. Second battery terminal was lose. So lose as soon as I drove off the lot battery light came on and stalled.
So after a mini heart attack with murderous rage I drove it back. A quick look over from the mechanic it was back to normal.

After that car runs like new everything feels tight. I was super paranoid for the first 20 miles, every little rattle or noise got to me. But not any more.

Now for what they did:
They did the recall work but I was informed when I picked it up that they had trouble with exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. Apparently they broke off the studs so I got a new cat and manifold.

So far about 100 miles zero issues.
I'll report back every 1000 miles with either good or bad news. But I'm confident the work was done right.

Time will tell! Hey do we have an idea at what miles after the recall we can be considered in the clear?
