Push Button Install (for BRZ Limited/10 Series/Converted FR-S or BRZ Premium)
Got in my STI push button and noticed when searching for a straight forward DIY there wasn't any. There was a YouTube video but unfortunately the person skipped over what I'd consider the most important step of how to pop out the DIN console piece!
The install was super simple and hopefully this will make everyone's life a little easier instead of sifting through the conversion thread (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ht=push+button). Enjoy the DIY... *NOTE: This DIY is for owners who already have a BRZ Limited, FR-S 10 Series, or have already converted your standard FR-S or BRZ Premium with Keyless Ignition and want to replace the push button with one from STI, TRD, etc. EDIT: The correct part number for the STI push button that is a direct plug-n-play is: ST83031ST020. Step 1: Start by removing the lower plastic driver side panel. Take your time by gently pulling on the plastic piece while taking note of the tab locations pictured below. Repeat for the passenger side panel. (View of Tab Holes) (Backside of Driver Side Interior Panel) Step 2: Removing the lower plastic panel pieces from Step 1 creates a small space that allows you to stick your hand inside to reach the backside of the DIN panel. Start from either driver or passenger side by gently pushing the DIN pocket outwards, then focus on the center section, and finally the opposite side. Take note of the 3 tabs on the top and 3 tabs on the bottom that hold the DIN panel in place (see below picture). Step 3: Release the push button harness (top red circle) and push the entire button assembly outwards by squeezing in the 2 tabs located on the top and bottom (bottom red circle is of the bottom tab; top tab is not seen in this picture). Step 4: Install the new push button by simply pushing the assembly in until you hear the 2 tabs "click" in to place. Step 5: Re-insert the push button harness. Push the DIN pocket back in to place until you hear the 6 tabs "click" securely. Re-install the lower plastic panels in the same manner. Step 6: Test and ENJOY! I want one, but man I can't justify that kind of money for a red button. Looks nice though.

Where did you order this from? I ALMOST ordered one today from Nigel JDM but the last time I saw a DIY it was far from plug and play on the limited. This looks simple as can be..must have!

I just did this install myself. The side panels weren't bad to get off, getting the center tab out was the hardest.
The center console piece however was a mighty pain, especially since you're feeling around blind. And being an automatic, my damn shifter was in the way while in Park! One tip however to help you pry it out: The USB/Headphone jack unit pops out of the console easily. There is a piece of styrofoam behind it, but you can pull this through the hole as well and the cable is a good length, it gives you a third opening to get your fingers in to help pull. EDIT: Now that I think about it, what the hell is the brown box attached to the back of this console piece? It has electrical wires going into it, but just sits loosely attached to the cubby hole in the console. It's not connected to anything on the other end?

By any chance do you know if our cars can use any push start button? I am wanting to change mine.. but am just wanting a solid color verses red or red lighting.

Not sure what you mean exactly by any push start button, but any Toyota/Lexus/Subaru OEM (or OEM-style) push start button will work. Sounds like the TRD button (with or without LED) would be what you're looking for.

I guess I wrote that completely wrong. I have the original push start button in my BRZ. ITs black with LEDS that are red. I just upgraded my LEDs in that whole center console. I have purple and the red really clashes with it. I have spoken to many people and they were un able to open the push start button to change the light. So I was curious as to if I can just buy any push start button and if it would work?

Wish I had done my homework on this before purchasing. I ordered ST83031ST012 from speedfactory and sure enough it's 2 entirely different plugs. Oh well, just ordered the correct model from avoJDM. Anyone know what model vehicle the ST83031ST012 fits?
