The reason the ND2 is better on street than new GR is its quicker off the line (200+ lbs lighter ) Its softer, rotates easier and has that spritely feel, top down experience and limits are lower. Its just more fun, but much worse to use daily.

I mean I like him & his reviews, but ppl are molded by their environment, so is his review. It would be cool if he lives by some cool driving roads instead of flat plains. You can tell what kind review ppl are gonna give to different cars just base on the kind roads they gonna drive it on. They easily falls into a pattern. |

He’s saying that - in comparison to the ND2 Miata - the Miata is more fun as a street car when compared to the GR86. True sure - it’s drop top, it’s sprinty. Compared to the 4 cars they had the Miata is 1st place for street - the GR86 is second. Then for track the S2000 is more pure / raw (which makes sense given its production years) than the GR86, which in its stock config, is 2nd place. However upgrade the brakes and tires and it would be very neck/neck. I take this video as praise saying while - it’s not the king of either it’s an awesome compromise because you get the benefits as being pretty good at street and track. One thing worth noting - there are really three things being discussed: 1. is it a fun street car 2. is it the best for use on the track 3. is it easy to live with/daily drive it wins hands down at number 3, and is second place at both 1 & 2. With better brakes, tasteful exhaust, disabling of the idiotic engine sound speaker, better tires it likely would best the S2000 and encroach on the Miata's street fun (given convertibles inherently are a more engaging experience with the top down). This isn’t hard. Last edited by austintampa; 09-18-2021 at 03:55 PM. |

I can promise you we have the 3 cars on every road and we are one of the first on the planet outside of Toyota employees to have had all on track and street to make this kind of judgement. The new car is great it's just pushing closer to what you get from a 718/Cayman, while the Miata is just that fun quick car that you go out for on a weekend and are happy to put it away to drive the 86 during the week. You would not believe how many Ferraris I own and how I have VIP status at my local Walmart. I get 5% off garbage bags. Next level. Quote:
Exactly, this car may not have the old school charm of s2000 or the Miata smile factor, it will exceed the S2000 and Miatas performance in almost every condition with the usual aftermarket bolt ons, and for far less money than the previous generation car. I'd buy one instantly if I was in the place to own a car like this again, it will make so many people happy.

S2000s are so overpriced now that comparing it with the GR86 is just bench racing. You get so much more value out of a new GR86 than a used S2000.

I'm still surprised that Toyota even did a 2nd gen when disposable hybrid crossovers are money printers. Getting ready to blow out the candles on the internal combustion cake
