Just noticed another mention of the FT-86

Anyone notice the red FT-86 Concept on page 20 of the Apex Car Guide shipped with Gran Turismo 5 Collector's Edition? Small article, states,

"In the past, a car's design would depend largely on the individual tastes of the designer. However, in recent years, a larger part of the car's design has been determined by functional considerations, such as the need for an aerodynamic shape, or the need to use certain materials. It is now standard to only turn to the concerns of beauty and unique character once these issues have been dealt with. Next-generation cars have the potential to revolutionize car design, and cars are soon likely to appear that would have been unimaginable in the era of the internal combustion engine."

Just wondering if this means Gran Turismo thinks our car is ugly or revolutionary

No, it's saying that this car actually combines both beauty and functionality.

Last page of Motor Trend April issue states that the BRZ/FRS were a missed styling opportunity. The writer goes on to say that Toyota and Subaru should have gone more aggressive with the design to make the car more memorable.

I'd agree with them. They should've stuck with one of the later concepts.

I concur as well. If you picked up a Black, White, Silver or Gray you blend in with all the other Toyotas and Hondas around here. This is my number 1 disappointment with the car's design, hell even a Prius is recognizable compared to the FRZ, not to mention Miatas and Mustangs.

Still worth it

The FR-S/BRZ is by far the coolest looking coupe in decades...especially under $50,000. I can only imagine what those nimbulbs consider stylish. Even Top Gear suggested the styling was "off".

Whatever!

I don't know...... I mean I know I'm never going to forget this car. Hell I'll probably never get rid of it.

I think it's clean, understated and beautiful. It's a timeless design. (except for the clear tail lenses)

i like leaving my home every morning and seeing my black beauty sitting there and waiting for me. I think the car is fantastic looking. I really didnt like the ft86 concepts and wasnt paying much attention to it before its final production.

One thing that I thought they should have done was make it wider. At the very least the flat plane of the rear quarter panels should been extended a little further to give an exotic look. Granted, it would make the car less nimble, so certain sacrifices had to be made.

Wider? It's as wide as my minivan.
It's a bit shorter, granted, but wider? No thanks.

Who cares what Motor Trend says, car journalists in general know jack shit. With the exception of Clarkson Hammond and May.
