Thanks to everyone for providing their input. Feel free to continue the discussion in my build thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94283
Continuing on from http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...93#post2378493

These are the exhaust parts I'm currently considering:

Tomei equal length headers ceramic coated
SME 2.5" catted front pipe
Invidia Q300 2.5" cat back
SME 2.5" over pipe

http://www.tomeiusa.com/_2003web-cat...brz_equal.html

Headers:
The Tomei Expreme headers specifications above show 2nd juncture - joint pipe of 60.5mm (2.38"). Would this be the inner diameter or outer diameter of the pipe?

Front pipe:
SME 2.5" catted front pipe
inner diameter of 63.5mm (2.5")

Cat back:
Invidia Q300 2.5" cat back
inner diameter of 59.9mm (2.36")

Over pipe:
SME 2.5" over pipe
inner diameter of 59.9mm (2.36")

Can anyone see any issues with my 2.5" exhaust setup above if I need to add more boost in the future (i.e. smaller pulley on the Harrop kit)?

What differences in power and torque are there between a 2.5" and 3" header back exhaust setup?

You really only need to change out the headers. The rest only yields minimal gains for the money. I'd say, get some headers (depending on whether you want torque, mid range, or power up top), and a catback of your choice based on sound. I.e. Q300.

2.5" will limit the ultimate amount of power and reduce power over a 3" system by about 3-7% ( depending on what your final power target is)

however 3" is a LOT louder

what BHP target are you shooting for?

If you're going catback, I can't say enough good things about the Invidia N1. People think it's loud and droney, until you hear it in person. Given, I don't have headers (yet), but this thing sounds mean af and it's not loud at all, and more aggressive than the Q300

If it's significantly louder then I won't bother going higher than 2.5"
I'm happy with a BHP increase of 50% over stock but looking to get up to 75% in the future. A lot will depend on the cost to get there.

I'm aiming to attract as little attention as a stock car so an N1 might not suit my needs

How about an aftermarket air filter or even a replacement for the stock airbox?
More searching to do when I get home from work.

You can't go wrong with any of the drop ins. They all vary by 1-3 hp. Depends who you have an affinity to. For example, I like Perrin or Cosworth, so I'd go with them. But Apexi or K&N are no better or worse. Just pick whichever you like the most! Also! Take a look at my build for some inspiration

Try looking at this thread, what I would do for each category...

Performance;
1. Drop in
2. Headers with OFT
3. catback
4. catless maybe resinated or free'r flowing cat.

Looks/suspension;
1-3. tires.
4.you'd be surprised how much a difference with stock wheels what 20mm spacers in front and 25mm in rear can do for looks.
5. lowering springs
6. Camber bolts and/or camber plates

everything is relatively inexpensive. Would definately love to see pictures, and cant wait to see what path you go down.

the stock airbox is actually pretty good up to 300Bhp, providing the filter is replaced as thats quite restrictive
sounds like you're looking for a positive displacement supercharger to me
and the market has several offerings these days

I have Tomei UEL header with the Q300 Catback on my car and it's loud on cold start, but once it's up to temp it's actually very civil sounding at low revs and there is zero drone or or obnoxiousness to the note.

I might not bother with an over pipe and only go with a high-flow catted front pipe.

In the example below (for a supercharged setup) there was no gain changing to a 63mm overpipe (assuming it was from a stock over pipe):

According to the following advice the front pipe should be replaced before the over pipe:

Would you all agree there are no gains or very minimal gains to be had with an overpipe?
