i've got the unpopular opinion that all seasons are just fine. i had dedicated snow tires the first 2 years of the cars life. i didn't find that the traction difference was all that much to whine about. it was less, but not less enough to be detrimental for the few times it's snowed in the last 6 years.

Everybody lives in place with different weather/temperatures/amount of snow. Good thing you noted weather alongside tire choice. For me snow/ice are way more frequent "guests", and i'd be stuck or in dangerous situations much more times during these 6 winters experienced in twin, if not having good winter tires.

Can't lump all tires in a category together. Some all-season tires are OK in snow, but some are *abysmal*. It matters a LOT which specific make/model of tire!

For sure the OEM Bridgestone Turanza all-seasons has gots to go...

"I will need to be out and about in all kinds of weather to get to my job."

You need snows. If you had an alternative vehicle to use or a very short commute and could work from home you'd get by fine with all seasons. Invest in snows now on stock wheels and save up for spring/summer and find a nice set of summers on marketplace/craigslist.

Awesome advice! Its just a tough decision when last year I had the snows ready to go and new All Seasons (Goodyear Weatheready) put on my '00 Accord V6 Coupe. Saw one tiny storm. Stayed 40 almost all winter. The year before was all slush which mandated the snows because that set of all seasons didn't like slush. Weather here is so unpredictable. But it really seems like planning for the worst winter and the gotta go to work regardless route should dictate purchasing snow tires.

Better to be prepared for what could very easily be a typical/tough New England winter and have the fortune of not needing them than the other way around. All it takes is one poorly plowed corner or intersection and you're effed. Best case scenario is you bang up your car. Worst case is you kill someone.
