I made it to the track again after installing the Jackson racing c38 kit. It took about 5 passes to figure out how to launch it. I was quite surprised how low i got the 60' times down to. stock wheels, tire size and pressures.

Fun day at Cecil County Dragway in MD. It was the MD Subaru Club East Coast Shoot Out. Made a few passes today despite the somewhat cold day for the track conditions with base prep.

Temps were around 60. 2013 BRZ visconti stage 2 with 245/40R17 RE71R tires around 19 psi in the tires. Launching around 2-3k rpms without launch control.

A higher launch rpm and some clutch abuse would've been worth 3 tenths or so imo.

Bringing this thread back from the dead


Stock Brz with weight reduction

-Spare Tire / jack removed/ trunk panels
-Rear Seats removed
-Pass Seat removed (Driver seat Bride bucket)
-Ac Removed
-Stereo system Removed
-Curtain air bags removed
-Alum Drive shaft
-Whiteline Rear diff bushing inserts

Stock HP throughout:

-Stock Headers, cats, over pipe, front pipe & catback
-Stock pullies
-Stock Tune
-Stock air box with inlet tube
-Stock Fdr


With all that being said I ran a bunch of 14.6's @ 97-98mph. I didn't want to break out during 14.50 index eliminations, so if I went faster than a 14.50 I would loose.. As the day went on and the track surface got better, I actually ran a couple 14.6's letting off top end @ 93mph to win the rounds and not worry about going below 14.5's. I feel It would of gone 14.5's for sure of better near the end. Being on the stock tire I did full stand still burnouts at 22psi in the tires. I was launching the car at 4500-4800 which I found to be the sweet spot of carrying wheel speed above 5000 rpms but spinning through first and squawking 2nd. It was a pro .400 tree so I was more concerned trying to catch a light while keeping the 4500 hanging there as I bumped into the beams. I was almost dumping the clutch just to make it consistent each round. The 60 foots were terrible 2.3's but the wheel speed to the 330 was fair for what I was doing. Once I get it down into the 1.8's-2.0's the Et should drop a ton. I was power shifting every gear driving it pretty hard.

All in all it was a great first outing with the car & I plan to go to the next even in 3 weeks time. For the next round I will be swapping out to my light weight battery, disconnecting the front sway bar (Allowing a lot more weight travel) & probably bring my BBS wheels with the Drag radials to see how fast a Stock hp Brz can go with minimal parts. If I can crack a 14.3-14.4 on the stock tires and maybe a 13.99 with the drag radials.. I would be super happy


Track was 35-40 C so super hot and about 34% humidity. If I remember correctly DA was 3200. More slips to come

I somehow lost my 14.3 time slip, but here is one of my qualifying runs where I was letting off trying to hit a 14.5 for the 14.50 index class I run. On this run it felt so good! My method waspower shift 1st,2nd,3rd, 4th and as soon as I pull 4th I started playing with the throttle pedal and brakes.. I let off the most on this pass & still hit a 14.40 @ 86mph when it usually runs 96-98mph full out. I have only been going during elimination race days so when I get a chance next to just go full out in test & tune and not worry about 14.50 index racing.. I feel Deep 14's or a 13.99 coming with stock power / tune



I know this thread has died off but I just want forum record of these posts as I was checking this thread a couple years ago without an 86

What kinda pressures would you run if you are using a 200TW track tire? I'm going to the strip friday night for the first time ever just for fun and I'm not sure what to run in terms of tire pressures.

I have 235/45/17 Yokohama A052s on a 17x9 that I'm most likely going to use.

I would start at 25psi and probably work your way down to 22-20 range. On my 16" wheel set up I have gone down to 18 the last sessions out. With the 17" you are limited to the amount of sidewall so trial and error but I find you can go down to 20-22 without sacrifice. This is minimal but also bump your front tire pressure to 40-42 from say 35 ish.. just rolling resistance so it doesn't hurt to have them pumped. I would say to Launch the car above 4000-4200 (this is a min) even if you have to back off the pedal slightly if it spins a bit, you can keep the rpm & wheel speed up in the happy power band.

Hmmm okay, now should I slip the clutch slightly on launch or just drop it? I've tried both before and I feel I can launch the car at a much higher rpm by slipping it slightly.

oh and you think I should bother to do a burnout or just run em cold?

Personally I do a burnout every time. Going around the water box and backing in. Avoiding the full size front tire from dragging the water out onto the groove. You will be slipping the clutch slightly but aggressively quick out if that makes sense. On my 17's that's my method, on my 16" bbs wheels with the Nitto NT555R's I have been launching it above 6800 pretty much side stepping the clutch. Pulled a 14.02 @99 last weekend so close to that 13.9

Another small tip is check the tire pressure cold.. So before the run in the lanes. Once you make a pass come back around give the tires 5-10 mins of cool off time before checking pressure again. You will see it bump 2-3 psi after a burnout / full pass usually. If you keep letting air out round after round of hot laps eventually when they cool off you could be down 5-8psi from your starting point for example. Bring a little compressor you can plug into your car outlet. I will do a run, let tires cool off. Add 1-2 psi and head to the lanes, just before the run drop them to desired pressure.

Following up with this old post..

After the last race event I got to make a full out run without worrying about eliminations or breaking out of the 14.50 index. Decent burnout, 18 psi in the tires, 7200 Launch, Power shifting at 7200

So close!!! 14.00 @ 96 Track shut down after that pass. My buddy got a video of it so I will post when I get it uploaded. I might do one more test & tune day before the track shuts down. I want that 13.9 bad now
