I don't understand, are we supposed to be excited about a BMW with a Toyota badge that costs too much money for it's HP/Weight?

That's one hell of a statement sir. I love the chassis don't get me wrong, but that is delusional.....

Oh boy - this is awesome. The body is a little busy with the ground effects kit and it would've been nice for them to include some styling throwbacks to previous generations; spoiler, roof spoiler, chunky five spokes, driver angled console, quad taillights, etc. But whatever, still a killer car for the price. Can't wait to see how it stacks up against a Cayman. Hoping the lower tune will make it more typical Toyota reliable. Good value, good performance, good resale, good reliability - awesome blossom extra awesome.

What's interesting is ROW will supposedly get a 2.0t with 194 hp, which means you can buy a GT86 with more hp than a Supra for less money... weird. Someone else said they should call that the Celica and put the Supra badge on 3.0 cars only. Makes sense to me!

Agree on it being a great chassis (hell I just bought another as a project) but I agree..

I'd rather have more sports cars on the market, not less.

As an enthusiast, shouldn't you care more about what it's capable of, than what HP everyone else will be driving it with?

I totally agree. Is anyone saying that a Cayman is underpowered and overpriced compared to a Mustang GT350? Well probably, just not anyone who understands the difference in class of cars and in the full packaging.

Again @Borchert97, the car will probably hit 400whp with a tune and E85, or with minimal bolt ons and a tune. Power won’t be an issue for 90% of buyers.
The 86 is the lightest rwd car with a fixed hardtop you can buy, regardless of the price point. Reducing weight is arguable more expensive than adding some power.

Some people would rather have a high revving, high output NA engine (something rare in 2019) and some people don't want AWD.

The BRZ 25k new, it's hardly overpriced in my opinion , considering the ND Miata for that price doesn't even have a LSD or glovebox

I really wanted to like it, but it's hard.

Design wise, I dislike everything north of the A Pillar. The nose is like a cheap Enzo kit car. The hood that takes of the entire fender is disgusting. And the car looks too narrow for its height. The interior is entirely BMW. I don't mind BMW interiors, as they're a nice place to be... but when I get into my $50,000 Toyota, I want to sit in a Toyota. Not a BMW.

The best thing about the MKIV Supra was the cockpit-like interior design. Could've been a great opportunity for Toyota to do something.... or anything.... with this car.... at all.

Are you saying that I'm lying? The 86 is one of the best chassis for under $100k. Fact.

It's also one of the lightest sports cars on the road, beaten only by the Miata as far as I know, why do you think so many people buy them to race them or drift them? Why buy an 86 and put $30k in it to modify it vs. just buying a GT350? Because at the end of the day, the 86 will always be 1000lbs lighter.

Man I question the intellect of some of the fools on here...

But I guess it's not common knowledge that the 86 has a lower CoG than the Cayman, GT-R, and is just tenths of an inch off the LFA, 911 GT3, and Ferrari 360.

But yes, come and tell me what kind of koolaid I'm drinking.

If you haven't put 2+2 together by now, then let me inform you that the Supra still weighs 600lbs more than the 86. I'm not saying it won't be faster around a track or that it won't have still have a lower CoG than the 86, I'm just saying, for a chassis as impressive as the 86, they'd have their work cut out for them to beat it with only a $50k car that also weighs 20% more. I imagine the Supra will actually have taken at least some inspiration from the 86, the cars look vaguely similar and the dimensions are also extremely similar.

I'd be excited by a BETTER car than what this appears to be.

There's literally no way I'd ever consider this car at this price point.

And as someone else pointed out, no MT. Yeah.. no thanks. I'd rather have less sports cars in the market than Toyota badged BMWs. IMO Toyota f'd up on this.

As for capability, pretty sure my current DD/HPDE car is far more capable, is one of the best cars I've ever driven, and is cheaper to boot... Granted it's not super practical but I don't think the Supra will be that practical either.

Although I must admit, a claimed 0-60 of 4.1 seconds is lightning fast for a car also claimed to only have 335hp... So that's probably WHP. That being said, I still think the car could've been a few thousand cheaper and also offered with a manual.
