This will skyrocket the price, then dealerships wants 15k of markup

Glad the news is out. I read they are doing a full press release by the end of the month.

Going to make some assumptions here; assuming it'll be a 3.0 with a slight power bump and upper trim ala A91 edition, so around low-$60s. It'll add to a very short list of high-performance manuals. I think it's just these four cars...

Mustang Mach 1 - $56-58k
Camaro SS/ZL1 - $43-64k
Cayman - $60k
CT4-V Blackwing - $59k

From there it's M3/4 around $70-72k+ along with Cayman S at $72k+.. then ~$85k for a Lotus Emira or $88k Cayman GTS and then $120-160k for the 911 variants. After that... $3mm GM T.50? I think I'm forgetting the M2 somewhere in there when the new one comes out.

I personally don't think the new Z will meaningfully compete with the manual Supra on road or track. It'll likely do a mid-12 quarter and be an easy magazine race given six cylinder turbo comparison but I'm skeptical Nissan had allocated enough resources to turn the original FM chassis, rehashed motor and gearbox to be a significant improvement over the outgoing model(s). I hope I'm wrong, I hope it'll be competitive and tie for 1st/2nd everywhere. Looking at the Frontier and other recent Nissan products, however, I'm convinced they are on the way out and not able to be competitive anymore.

Anyway, point being the Supra would have a real nice spot for itself.

Anyone here plan to pick one up?

A friend of mine told me he likely would have gotten a Supra if it came with a stick, but he instead got a Civic Type R after his previous lease was up. After going through leasing a bunch of cars he thinks the Civic might be his keeper car and might buy it out at the end of the lease term.

I wonder if the Supra + stick news might make him change his mind lol.

Why not? Not everyone that can afford a more expensive car buys the more expensive car if it doesn't do what they want.

People cross shop new and used cars all the time. Even new and new of different classes. Used Cayman, Corvette or Supra vs a new 86+FI or CTR+bolt-ons or Z. If someone was set on a JDM sports car then there aren’t a lot of options.

I guess.. I mean I looked at getting a MK5 Supra but I need something with more hauling capacity so I'll get a CX-50 instead. Am I doing it right? Also if someone wanted a manual Supra, the M2 already existed with a better manual than the potential crunchy one offered in the CTR.

if he's leasing, i believe it. most people that lease generally have a little more flexibility financially. in thinking about it, but not looking it up, a ctr and supra likely has pretty similar lease payments, as the msrp's are pretty close together.

i'm just more surprised the part of cross-shopping a 4-door high performance hatchback with a grand touring coupe.

I did at one point. Nothing wrong with trying to figure out what fits you. Test drive and buy what you desire. I did end up with the Supra. If my dealer didn't have the Supra sitting in the lot, I would've brought home the CTR.

He went from an FRS > Benz CLA > Type R.

When he had the Benz he did tell me he wanted his next car to be a BMW M2 CS.

His criteria definitely changed since getting the CLA and returning it.

I was actually surprised he went Type R though, i thought he'd continue on with the Luxury or higher end makes.

But you cant deny the all-roundness appeal of the Type R though.
