Trailer Hitch
Is there a trailer hitch available yet for the twins? I've been checking www.etrailer.com and nothing listed there so far.

This is going to be a hard car to make a hitch for.
I want one that has a triangular receiver that sticks out where the red reflector is. Too bad no one makes triangular hitches. I need to look under the car and see if there are any factory points for bolting anything, or if it will require drilling holes. |

Hopefully there will be one eventually. It was a big problem with the Solstice in the beginning, too.

Pretty sure the manual says NOT to use this car to tow anything ...

Same is said in the manuals for S2Ks and Kappas, but you see plenty of people put hitches on there and tow tires to autocrosses and track days. I did it a few years back on my Sky Redline. As long as you are towing a lighter one axle trailer, you shouldn't have an issue. Just be gentile when towing.

They said don't tow with a Z06 but I did (large tire trailer) as do lots of others. They said don't tow with an STi, we did, a 2 kart trailer. I bet this happens on the 86s sooner rather than later at the very least to mount bike racks.

The u-haul site has the BRZ listed but when you go to the product page you get the following:
Your vehicle requires a custom-built hitch which we will gladly fabricate for you. If you are able to bring your vehicle to our Tempe, AZ Research & Development facility we'll provide you with a free U-Haul custom trailer hitch, including free installation, and a lifetime unlimited warranty in exchange for the use of your vehicle to fabricate the trailer hitch. We'll need the vehicle for two to three days. If you are interested in this offer please complete the form below and we'll contact you to schedule your appointment. This offer is only valid until one customer per vehicle can fulfill our requirements. Anyone near Tempe looking for a hitch? http://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/Trailer-Hitches/ |

If I were to buy an FT86 I would require a hitch to pull my tire trailer. I'm sure the big hitch manufacturers will be developing solutions for this car (Curt and DrawTite). I just hope the execution is decent, that little triangle area may make the reciever location awkward.

might void your warranty if there is every a body frame problem
it clearly states in the manual not to install trailer hitches, bike racks attached to trailer hitches or to use the vehicle for any sort of towing.

I want to buy a BRZ so I don't have to tow a trailer to the autocross. lol It's my only gripe with the s2k.
But to get back OT, what are you towing? |

You CAN get 4 wheels and tires in the car pretty easily in under 5 minutes and have quite a bit of room left in the trunk, so I for one probably won't be investing in a tire trailer but I can certainly see the utility of it. I would definitely recommend tirerack (or whoever the brand is) tire bags for the wheels/tires because tires can easily scuff up hard plastic interiors. |

not saying dont do it, having a trailer hitch is much utility.. but just keep in mind that if something happens the dealer may deny claim.

I haven't looked in much detail, but it seems to me that the two tow hook receptacles at the rear might be a perfect attachment point for a temp hitch receiver. They are intended to hold the weight of the car, pulling in at least some angular direction, so they should be able to handle a bike rack or small tire trailer. It would seem to be easy to have a cross bar with a receiver and then two tubes going to the attachment points made up. Then you'd just have to pull the covers and bolt it on when you planned to use it.
