Yeah. I couldn't bring up a chuckle until I saw the pup walking it off. It was far more mobile and far less disoriented than I would have been.

Haha before we got married, both of us agree on having certain amount sent to joint account to pay for bills. Rest of the money, it’s individual money. So idk how much she makes & vice versa… technically I do know how much she makes (cuz I do taxes), but idk how much she have in her personal account & so forth. Same goes w her, she doesn’t know how much I make & how much I’ve saved up. If we really wanted to see, we can ask each other to see it… but honestly, I don’t care & same w her.

We do basically the same thing. I pay her 'rent' that equals about half her mortgage and the utilities. I also pay the internet and phone bills. She pays for Netflix and Disney+. I pay for Amazon Prime. We each pay our own cars and insurance and we have our own bank accounts but also a joint account just to pass money back and forth to each other. We have been engaged for 8 years but never legally married. She used to pay me rent when we lived in my house (that became my rental and recently I sold it) and when I finish building my new house we will move over there and sell her house. I think she wants to buy-in to the new house though... but I guess we'll see if she come up with the capital for that. We know generally what each other makes but not exactly. I don't even know what I make usually because I have so many sources of income, lol. Although I cut down on a lot of it just to take stuff off of my plate.

Well we both wear rings... just never set a date. Even though we are a traditional heterosexual couple we use domestic partnership laws to have common benefits, THANKS OBAMA, lol. And since there isn't really a good tax incentive anymore to being married anymore it's almost like what's the point?

That's a mistake without that other legal piece of paper you've been avoiding for 8 years. Better draw up some serious partnership agreement on the house if you are going to do this.

Not judging your relationship, but from this prospective it seems you've been doing it right to date in terms of not co-owning things without the marriage ceremony. I would be careful about messing it up now.

For what its worth, MomHawk and I made a conscious decision from the beginning to co-mingle finances, with everything in both names, and having full access to the money. Anything less felt like we were planning to have one foot already out the door. We do realize not everyone sees it that way of course, but it's worked for us for almost 35 years and we've never had a money fight, at least not a major one.
