Hurricane Sandy is some 485 miles south-southeast of New York City packing winds of 75 mph.

This dangerous storm is expected to make landfall late Monday near the DelMarVa Peninsula and southern New Jersey.

Forecasters warn it will likely collide with a cold front from the West to spawn a superstorm that could slog along the Eastern Seaboard for days -- meaning even more wind, flooding and power outages.

Mass transit systems that typically carry close to 11 million on a weekday are canceled in New York, Washington and Philadelphia. The federal government has told its workers in Washington not to come in on Monday, and schools serving more than 2 million students are canceled up and down the East Coast.

President Barack Obama has declared states of emergency in Massachusetts, Maryland, New York and the District of Columbia.

For some reason, I don't think my connecting flight from Atlanta to White Plains on Tuesday will be going on. Looks like I'll spending some time in Atlanta, but we'll see.

It's not the skinny trees we have to worry about. With the rain that's coming, root systems on large trees are gonna get saturated and that's when you have the ginormous trees falling over and smashing you into a pancake...or worse, your car!

I'm thinking to take my sisters car. The garage at work is enclosed but many of the roads on the way flood and I think I'll have better luck driving a Honda Accord than the BRZ. Guess I'll see what the roads look like in the evening.

Hurricane Sandy is a powerful storm that will affect millions of people, President Obama warned today.

The storm, with sustained winds of 90 mph, is forecast to make landfall on the mid-Atlantic coast tonight or Tuesday morning and it could affect as many as 60 million people.

The U.S. Supreme Court has canceled its public session for Tuesday "due to weather conditions related to Hurricane Sandy."

The storm also could delay the release of the highly anticipated October jobs report set for this Friday.

Mitt Romney's campaign canceled his event in Wisconsin tonight "out of sensitivity for the millions of Americans in the path of Hurricane Sandy."

If you are parking your car in the open just park it away from low areas prone to flooding, trees and walls. It will take approximately 140-180mph winds to flip a stationary car...but if you are parked near a wall which could cause wind lift you can flip easier. I just did some reading on the subject and came across a test performed in the wind tunnel for this.

Bottom line stay safe and I hope we all come out of this without needing car insurance claims.

If you have to drive in this crap be very careful.
