I strongly considered a R8 with the V8 powerplant with the sweet gated manual. But then I see the new Lotus Evora 400 on the horizon. Even though it's two cylinders down from the R8, it's really really difficult to argue against Lotus chassis tuning...

Yeah, both of them bought new. Big spenders.

I haven't looked at the market prices on R8s recently, but I'd still probably be more tempted by a 996 Turbo if I wanted to go German, or a Ferrari 360 if I wanted to go exotic. R8s are relatively cheap to maintain compared to most modern supercars, but run very similarly to 911s and the aforementioned 360 in maintenance costs (depending on who you see for labor or if you're a DIY guy).

Or, you could get a new Stingray and have a factory warranty and a bulletproof drivetrain.

In Canada, I've seen between 88ish and 120ish for a used example. At that money you can get into a lot of other things, but I kind of like the idea of an R8 'cause it's like an exotic 'Vette. An everyday, poor mans super car.

Aren't the C7's having lots of drivetrain issues, tho? Beautiful cars... First Corvette that ever made me consider one.

Lotus chassis tuning and I believe it has a slightly better power to weight than the V8 R8 too.

That is an awesome car.

Not to mention that probably NO ONE ELSE in your city or state will have one, either. You can be a special snowflake!

Yeah and that's without negotiating too much. I'm sure you could get one for even less.

If you haggle the price down, but then in 6 months or a year you decide you want something else, you can sell it for what you bought it for (or more) and buy something else.

If it was any ordinary V8, I'd say go with the V10... But the V8 in the Audi R8 is the same one they used in the B7 RS4. My Dad owned one of those, and I loved it! To this day, it's still in the top 5 of my favorite cars I've ever driven list. It was just a perfect all around car.

On another note, I've honestly never been a big fan of the R8 as a car. The styling just doesn't speak to me, personally; and for 100k, I want something that I can just sit and look at. Of course, that's all subjective though.

If I was going to spend around 100k on a car, I'd be looking at the following:
-Porsche Cayman GT4
-Nissan GTR
-BMW M5

GT4 because it's just a magnificent car, and looks damn good. GTR because it's a track ready monster that you can beat the shit out of on track. M5 because it's a sick all around car that packs a punch. Plus, I work for BMW now, so I could get an amazing deal on one... Or a fully loaded M3 sedan haha

I have heard several people say they don't like the styling but that's one thing I really do like lol. Not sure why but it just looks elegant and aggressive at the same time.

As for the GTR I like them because they are great cars, but....and I know I will likely get shit for saying this but to me they look like what I would imagine a NISMO maxima would look like. To car guys/gals they look good but honestly I would think the general public might not be able to distinguish them from say a g35/q50 ect.. If I'm spending six figures or near that I want it to look striking. The Gt4 is definitely a looker and performer though!

I flip flop on the R8 styling. Sometimes those black panels behind the doors bother the shit out of me, most of the time they're good though.

Haha! I kind of agree on the GTR looks. I like the way it looks; "cool" or "aggressive" are words I'd used to describe it. "Gorgeous", "beautiful", or "sexy", however aren't words I'd use to describe the looks of a GTR.

It's like the same with the WRX/STI. All these Subaru vapelife stage 2 douche nozzles talk about how they're so sexy and blah blah blah... But they're really just sedans with wings and more exhaust tips haha.

I like my STI, but who am I kidding? It ain't a pretty car haha. Different strokes I suppose.
