I learned to fly RC Helicopters with a sim. Having a predictable environment is crucial for those little details. Agreed!

I would strongly recommend checking out the BeamNG.Drive. While it's famous for its realistic deformation physics and majority of youtube videos of this sim are just crashes, you'd be surprised how good the driving physics in this sim is. Just check it out.
There's plenty of mods, including the BRZ/FR-S which is quite accurate. Also you can tune anything, like the compression/rebound of shicks, spring stiffness, camber, toe, caster, etc. Which really changes car's behavior. Personally, I've uninstalled Assetto Corsa after I started playing BeamNG.Drive. |

It requires a third party car editor though, but is still doable. |

The only downside of BeamNG at the moment is it's mostly a sandbox. You won't have championships, career mode as in AC. But if you use it for practicing or overall having fun - it's an awesome sim. |

The other benefit of AC is that it has a lot of tracks. In fact, it has every track I've been to, or plan to go any time soon. |

Does not add anything for over/understeer. I have a gamer 2, can't really say it's worth it IMO. It'll impress your friends and add some fun dimension to the game, but it definitely will not make you any faster.

Understeer is evident when your steering wheel provides reduced resistance to steering inputs, Oversteer is evident when your car begins to turn without necessarily providing appreciable steering inputs.
Both understeer and oversteer can be induced by weight transfer independent of steering inputs, but can be complimented/tuned by steering/throttle/braking/weight transfer inputs. It's complicated, but being aware of these basic behaviors/traits will get you on the way to understanding when over/under steer can/will happen.
