Got through a bit more. Just pulling everything that is going to be in the way for a few things and going to toss in a few extras while the engine is out. Just taking my time and planning a path. I don't like tearing things apart more often then necessary. I have some back issues that put me down quite a bit. So I like to plan ahead to save back as well.

Removed the radiator, crash beam, washer reservoir, Ecutek w/flexfuel, and more random crap.

I am trying to keep screws and whatnot with the parts coming off in little baggies and masking tape. If anyone has any tips to keep it all straight please let me know.

Have not touched the car in a couple weeks now, back issues again. But hoping to pickup an engine hoist in the next month or so and pull it finally. First order of business will be to get in and clean out the engine bay. Excited to clean the car up a lot while I work as well. I like to keep my cars pretty-ish even if I am going to beat it a bit.

And Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Worked on the car a little last night. My back has been acting up pretty bad so I had to watch more then work but we got the intake off. Took our time and took some pictures. I am getting more nervous as we pull more and more apart. Putting it all back together will be fun

I hope the next update the engine and transmission are out of the car!!! Goal is to have it out by Christmas. I am in Vegas this next week for work so that may or may not happen depending on how much pain I am in when I get home. Either way SOON!!

I talked with Phil at Element Tuning some more and I am going that direction. He is a really great guy and has spent a good amount of time getting to know me and my goals as we get started.

So the plan
-Element Tuning Pro Comp Motor
Forged Pauter X Beam Asymmetrical Rods
Forged JE 2618 10.5:1 Pistons

So lowering compression to get ready for SC.

They are also going to clean up the heads and install larger valves to allow the engine to rev out to 9000 RPMs!! Going to work with delicious to tune the engine so not sure if we will push it yet. Phil said without going to a standalone we can't control the injectors quite as much so I may not see power all the way up to 9k anyway.

I am working on sourcing a new (to me) transmission and then going to use element tunings transmission oil cooler. It taps in and sprays on the 4th gear syncro. It will definitely keep the transmission cooler and may give a little durability to 4th gear.. not gonna keep my hopes up but we will see.

To keep oil pressures up and hopefully prevent another rod bearing failure I am also installing a Accusump Oil accumulator with the new engine.

More expensive of a project then I really wanted to get into but something like this is the route I have always dreamed going. It's going to be one hell of a car!!

O yah I also dropped the front bumper off at a local body shop to be repainted. Clean up of the nicks and fill in of the license plate holes and give it a fresh coat. Cost $275. I think that's a good price. Have not had much paint work done so not sure. Quoted me $300 for the hood. Figured I would see if he does a good job on the bumper first.

Finally got some time to finish pulling the motor out this past weekend. Came out nice and easy. Had some trouble with the shifter so just pulled it all. I marked the plates on the trans for the reverse lockout. I think I read that needs to be aligned just so as it goes back in.

I plan to clean up the engine bay and replace a lot of bolts before everything goes back together. Was a Chicago daily driver so a refresh will be nice. Make it easier next time around.

Also I noticed my front break calipers have a layer of red surface rust on them! I assume it was from the heat of track driving? I forgot to get a picture but it's much worse on the fronts. I'll upload one this weekend.

Team effort but getting it done! Trying to keep everything coming off of the car labeled and together. Going to start cleaning the rust off of all the bolts that came out next week. Apparently you just soak the nuts and bolts in white vinegar for a couple hours. I'll post the before and after pics.

Welp I found the issue!! The engine was not nearly as hard to pull apart as I thought it would be. I can definitely put it back together once I get some new parts. Deciding now what that will look like. Not just putting stock parts back in. I definitely need a new crank! The bearing welded the oil hole for cylinder 3 closed haha.

Should I be concerned about the cracking inside the timing cover? What else should I take a closer look at?

It's great how much info about our cars are on the internet!

I also have a black 2013 BRZ which I just supercharged at 75000 miles. I'd be happy if my engine held out to 100k!

I've worked on cars but never any in depth engine repairs like this. Really interesting stuff.

It really is not that hard if you do a little research And watch YouTube videos. Of course ask me again after I have my car running again and I may have a different answer lol. But this forum and YouTube are an amazing source of info for our platform.

The frs engine was by far the easiest engine i've pulled. It seemed like a daunting task at first to start, but once you get going it all comes out very fast. Having a wiring harness that unplugs from the rest of the car is a huge time-saver. Pulling the engine first time around took about 3-4 hours with my wife helping.

The second time I pulled it ( long story short, a bad bearing on the top idler made me think I screwed up my rebuild and it was knocking) only took about 2 hours start to finish.

As far as working on the engine itself, get whatever information/manuals you can get your hands on and it is straight forward as anything else mechanical you can do engine wise.. I didn't find it took hard, but I didn't tare down into the block, just the valvetrain.

Well I think I am tossing in the towel to have my car back this year. With the economy going crazy I am just sitting right. Tossed my car fund into Bitcoin for a while. Hopefully Bitcoin goes to $100k and I get to buy more toys for my patience!!

The plan for now is to wait till winter and get back at it. As long as I am up and running by next spring I'll be happy.

I just want to survive 2020 lol

Finally getting back at it. I started sending out parts and ordering again. My block case half's are cleaned up, tested for cracks and cylinders are honed. The heads have been stripped and cleaned up as well. Also sent out my brake calipers to be powder coated. I did not like them all rusty after a few days on track. They are almost too pretty to install and mess up.... Almost

I have RCE swaybar and some white line bushings/end links coming in soon and we will get that all installed. She should be back on all 4 wheels soon now.

My Bitcoin bet has been paying off in spades so I might add a few things to the build I was holding back on. Starting to get excited to drive it already... Got a long way to go haha

I am getting back into gear here in the Garage. The engine case halves came back perfect. No cracks thank God! Ended up working out that I powder coated the Brake calipers, the fronts had seized so needed a rebuilt anyway. Defiantly going to make sure the Verus break cooling kit is on before the next track day.

Next steps are tackling the cooling system and put the nose back on the car. Trying to do everything in sections. Now that suspension is all swapped and done its cooling , motor, transmission in that order. I do not think I will put the engine and trans in at once like taking it out.

Back to talking with Phil at Element Tuning again and my Heads are shipping out to him in the next few weeks. Getting the big valve package done and building the bottom end myself with forged internals. Confirmed we are dropping to 10:1 compression with new pistons.

Working with Griffin Thermal Products out of South Carolina to make me a radiator. Going to a 3 inch core and going to have some aluminum cut and installed to direct airflow where we want it. Trying to build it "Bullet proof".

Goal is to drive the car in May of this year. Gives me a few more months but I feel like that time will be gone fast.....

Don't forget if you want to buy more car parts to keep some of your money out working for you!! Bitcoin is not done yet! Not selling more then monthly bills currently, $100k BTC price incoming!! Cheers!!!

Heads are with @Elementtuning as of this week!! I am SUPER excited to move forward. This is taking sooo much longer then I wanted but I am happy that I am not rushing it and waiting. This is my no compromise build. I would rather wait a little and do it the way I want.

Did you end up just buying a new car with your BTC? Haha
