Cat-back vs axle-back on stock headers

I'm going to get some new exhaust soon, but thanks to the people's republic of Kalifornia I can't get new headers.

Would there be any benefit of going with a Cat-back or should I just get an axle back since the only thing it's going to really be changing its the sound?

I'm all stock engine/exhaust at this point, but will be going turbo in the near future.

so you want to go turbo and yet you are concerned about a header not being street legal?

I'm not understanding your logic here, unless you're ONLY going with the Works turbo kit... there are no street legal California turbo kits other than Works, and theirs is street legal because they retain both stock cats.

An axle back or cat back won't any difference on this car when you're N/A. Its purely for sound and looks. I'd suggest keeping an eye on the classifieds to see if there's something that you like. For example, I picked up a Q300 and catless front pipe for 400 bucks.

As @mav1178 said, the only carb legal turbo kit is the works kit since you keep the factory header. However, there are a few carb legal supercharger kits available. Jackson Racing, Kraftwerks and Edelbrock are the ones that come to mind.

Yea when I asked if there would be any difference I was talking about the sound. I'm going with the works kit.

For a turbo kit, you'll see more of a gain w/ a catback system because the factory exhaust bend by the differential is too small for a boosted application.

If a catback on paper is worth 3-5RWHP on a dyno with stock engine, on the same dyno with a turbo kit it's worth probably double.
