I won't be upgrading, at least right away.
My cars now about done. Bilsteins/yellows, header/tune, little cosmetic stuff.

I use my 2017 as a DD. It has 83000km in three years.
I figure in another three I will be pushing 150,000km and by then it may be worth looking at the new ones.

By then the aftermarket will have been caught up and proven things that work.

I had a '13 FRS with 34k miles on it. It had an open recall on the motor for valve springs, and probably 60+ track and autox days. I just sold it for 21k.

Moving to a brand new car that's 9 years newer, performs better, doesn't have looming engine issues, and has a warranty, for not too much more just makes sense.

I actually did the math on two scenarios: keeping the FRS for another 5 years and then selling, or buying the gr86 and selling that in 5 years. I actually came out ahead in the gr86 scenario. Obviously that math includes guesstimations on what the value for either car will be, but I didn't even factor in possible engine repairs on the FRS.
Is this a private sale? This is really tempting if I can get 25k+ for my 17' brz w/ 39k miles.

Not immediately, but maybe if/when a mid-cycle refresh is released (especially with a performance package or something).

I bought my BRZ new off the lot about two years ago. It's still completely stock but I still enjoy everything about it. Does pretty well in the local autocross org for what it's worth. It's also paid off.

With that said, the new car is definitely an improvement. I'd be lying if I wasn't tempted to trade it in for a white GR86. But for me it realistically doesn't really make sense to switch it out at this point.

Sold it to Carvana. I just checked and they're still making pretty crazy offers.

Aside from the ECU issues mentioned, the whole dash is completely redesigned, so I'd be surprised if the hole's matched up.

Plus I would have to return to stock, keep what fits and sell what does not. Not the end of the world but not ideal.

I am sure plenty of others are thinking the same thing. Thoughts.
I made the mistake of comparing my mostly stock '14 to a '17. The kouki fixed all my issues with the zenki. I'm seriously afraid the new one will do the same thing. Depending on the parts compatibility and if toyota ever does a PP, it might get me to trade in.

I swapped in a DMH-W4660NEX this spring to fix that issue. Wireless Carplay is a godsend. It's supposed to do AA wireless too but I have yet to try it.

Sony has just finally announced an Android auto/Apple carplay HU with a good DSP that has time alignment, but it's a damn 10.1 inch display, way too big for tiny car. If the AX8100 had that DSP it would already be in the car.

My car might be worth $12k at best, if the salesman doesn't look at it under direct sunlight, I'd have to eat at least $15k to get into a new car for ~30 hp and ~30 ft-lbs of torque.

For half that money ($7k-$8k) I can slap an emissions legal supercharger and oil cooler onto my current car and get double the horsepower gains.

If I had a newer car that could trade in for >$20k and get my cost down to <$10k to get into the new car I could see it making sense. They made a great package, just not one I'm willing to drop $15k+ on at this point in my life. Might change my tune in 5 years, might move into something else.

The same. I think that I will just install final drive and coilovers and it will be enough for next couple of years.
