Coming up to an intersection with two left hand turn lanes, I was in the inner lane of the turn. I saw the oily sheen and reduced my speed to about 7-8MPH (Normal speed for that wide of a corner is probably 15-25MPH). Even then my car slid through the second lane and into the the third before I regained grip. Lucky for me there is no one in the outside turn lane.

7 mph was enough to send you three lanes over? Sure it wasn't flubber that you hit?

I did something similar going less than 15 when I hit sand. 7 MPH with no grip is plenty enough.

Obviously the work of the JDM under panels providing +1000% extra downforce, when disrupted, causes catastrophe.

Managed to do something very similar in my old Forester believe it or not, sub 20 mph into a downhill corner with ~1 inch accumulated snow, over 2 lanes and upside down in the ditch.

0 Injury to me and my GF at the time, and the kicker? We landed in a squishy marshy section and the only damage to the car was a smushed driver side mirror and some gnarly scratches... #Tank.

At any rate, glad you're doing alright

Australia. Other side of the road. No lanes over.

I was only about 2 foot off the road, but the drop away caused the nose to drop and then the car to roll.

I was doing about 40kmh, and probably 2-3kmh when I went over the drop. If it was 1m of flat on the side, I would have driven off with zero damage.

The poor bikers . . . reminds me of when I lived in San Francisco. Heavy fog or light drizzle settling on the streets all the time, and shiny streetcar tracks flush with the asphalt literally everywhere. They were laying them down and sliding in every direction, especially at intersections.

Rolling isn't really that traumatic. I'd much rather roll a few times than hit an immovable object.

I think I agree, though I've only done it once, and wouldn't really want to try it again. My adventure involved leaving a tightly curved exit ramp going too fast. I slid sideways down into a wet grassy culvert, which started the roll. What stopped the roll was a heavy concrete wall with a pipe in it to drain water from the grassy ditch. Sort of the worst of both worlds, if you will. I describe my scramble to exit my smoking car somewhere else around here, but I was uninjured because I was belted, and the A, B and C roof posts did their job beautifully. When the wrecker pulled it (2003 Mazda Protege ES 4-door sedan) back onto its tires, I found that I could easily unlatch and relatch all four doors.

I am doubly blessed: that OP is as unscathed as I was, and that it looks like I can expect the same selfless heroism from my BRZ, if and when push comes to shove.

Oh, yeah. I've rolled without striking anything. If I had to hit an immovable object, I would much rather be right side up.

Walked away - no injury whatsoever.

Managed to line up 3 patches of oil, 2 on outside wheel line, 1 on inner line. Police ruled no fault.
